This movie, The Box, by Richard Kelly deals with a suburban couple and their young child. Strange things happen to take place in their lives after they receive an apparently simple looking wooden box as a gift. There is also a message that comes along with the box and is delivered by a mysterious stranger. The message says that with a press of a single button, the owner of the box would be bestowed with $1 million. How great is this temptation to resist? For Norma and Arthur, the couple that we were talking about, it was understandably hard to resist. Perhaps this is so, with most of us.

But then, the hinge lies with the tag that follows in the message. It says that with the press of the button, there would also be a simultaneous death of one person who might be from anywhere in the world. He or she can be someone whom they may not even know. Now, they need to undergo the test of humanity as they are at the crossroads of life. They feel irresistibly drawn towards the box and yet at the same time they must also ensure that they are doing the right thing as they face their own conscience. This horror film is due for release on Friday, November 6, 2009.
