Mad Men is set in an advertising agency in New York City during the 1960’s. The core of the story is fictional agency, Sterling Cooper on Madison Avenue and centers on creative director, Don Draper (Jon Hamm). Draper is the best ad man in New York, as well as a notorious ladies’ man. However, as times change, Draper has to keep on top of his game or someone younger will take over. Advertising is a merciless and fast-paced environment where only the strong survive to make the next pitch. Not only does it deal with Draper’s life in and out of the agency, but with the changing social values of the 1960s. Draper’s at the top of his game now, but can he stay there?
The show, focusing on advertising, has also a point of “product placement“. In more than one episode, a show advertiser has their product featured prominently either in the show’s shots or in the story of the week.
