Volkswagen Jetta ,the much talked about car from the Volkswagen stable is expected to hit the Indian Roads on 16th July 2008. Volkswagen made its debut on the Indian roads with its luxury Passat and later brought in SUV Touareg.
Volkswagen’s presence would now be seen on Indian roads with the Launch of its most popular car The Jetta. The Jetta will come as completely knocked down (CKD) kits & will be priced within 10 lakhs. Pricing is the most important factor which Volkswagen needs to do with utmost care for it to compete in the Indian market.
The 5th generation Jetta which is being launched here will compete with the likes of Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Suzuki & Skoda. Honda is set to launch new City shortly, but what takes Jetta ahead of competition is the option of both Petrol & Diesel engines. The 1.9L diesel & 1.6L petrol with 5 speed manual & 6 speed automatic makes the competition quite interesting. The four cylinder petrol version will have maximum power of 102 PS at 5600 rpm with max. torque of 148 Nm at 3800 rpm, whereas the diesel version provide 105 Ps power at 4000 rpm and max. torque of 250 Nm at 1900 rpm.
Polished interior, refined engine, a comfortable ride with European elegance makes Jetta a competitive car in the industry.There are loads of safety features like ABS, Airbags, Stability control system which are additional on the higher variants.
Volkswagen Jetta would be manufactured at the company’s Aurangabad Plant & is all set to launch on 16th of July 2008. Wishing them all the best & hope this European giant tastes success.

Yeah… the pricing is one thing that Volkswagen needs to take care of. The 1.6L Petrol would be around 13 lakhs ex-showroom & the diesel would be around 14 – 17 lakhs ex-showroom. Again here it depends on the transmission.
I have been waiting for its arrival….but when honda also declred its new model city, it would be difficult to compete in price.
True. Jetta is over priced & I feel it would be difficult to compete on pricing..
Today its 16th July….But couldnt see any news regarding its launching, price etc.????any idea about it?
The Launch is In Mumbai today… so it might be out tomorrow.
