The Much Awaited SUV from Toyota’s stable is all set to roll out in India. The Toyota Fortuner which has kept the Indian market waiting for quite sometime now would be screaming through the Indian terrain by this year end. This one would be the face lifted version which was recently launched in Malaysia & it would for sure be a treat to drive. Built on the IMV platform as the Innova & Hilux, it would be assembled in India at its Bidadi factory in Bangalore. This would result in an aggressive pricing to compete with CRV & the Captiva. It would be available in 2.7V Petrol & 2.5G Diesel variants. The petrol version would have 4-cylinder, in-line 16-valve, DOHC, VVT-i engine where-as the diesel one would have DOHC Turbo diesel. Both the variants would come with only auto transmission in its 2009 face lifted version.
Some of the key features would be:
1. New projector headlamps and fascia,
2. New rear lights
3. DVD Navigation system
4. Blue-tooth connectivity
5. New light sand interior
6. Electronic-adjustable driver seat,
7. Rear cool air conditioning from ceiling for second and third row
8. Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control
9. Electronic Brake Force Distribution with Brake Assist
10. All Wheel Drive (AWD)
11. Redesigned front grille and Headlamps lamps
Its being assembled in India. The pricing is the key factor & it is most likely to be in the range of 16 – 17 lakhs. If Toyota India succeeds with this pricing it would give Honda & Chevrolet run for its money. With Toyota’s known reliability & technology the new toyota fortuner 2009 is gonna create waves in the Indian market.

Fortuner will be launched in India in late July-early August 2009 with a price tag of around Rs. 18 Lacs.
Ive’d been driving my 2009 Fortuner Diesel AT since last Nov.27,2008.
Now its. almost 3K and have it change oil after 1KM run.
It’s great driving, I have tried driving speed at 160KPH without problem.
My next plan is to activate the GPS….I bought it 1.850M PHP.
Including sound system upgrade+ subwoofer +car cover and spare tire lock.

The fortuner will roll out of toyotas assembly line on 13th september 2009. Full CKD kits have arrived at toyotas bidadi factory. 4×4 automatic, 4×4 manual & 4×2 manual will initially roll out at an ex-factory price of 16,12,000=00 INR onwards.

I drive a 2008 Fortuner and it’s great: the perfect SUV. I even prefer it to the Landcruiser, because it has a more stylish shape and it’s lighter and more mobile. I’m 1.94m tall, and I feel really comfortable driving it. All-in-all, it’s a great SUV.

Kudos to XYLO for forcing the launch of FORTUNER which was eagerly awaited by many in India for the past 5 years.It will be good for Toyota if FORTUNER is priced around 13-14 lakhs. At 20 lakhs it will cater to a niche market competing with Honda CRV, FORD Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva ,Mitsubishi Pajero & outlander while XYLO will walk away with the majority of the market.

Like all of you, i was desperately waiting for this vehicle and finally i get to see it yesterday at Toyota yard, honestly the vehicle is a big time disappointment, first the price they are asking is just double 20 lakhs whereas the international cost of this vehicle is around 12 lakhs, 2ndly its a all time 4 wheel driver which is a waste for Indian road as this will reduce the mileage, once you are inside the vehicle there is no luxury inside, you will feel that you are sitting in a INNOVA – its completely same. i think we all wasted our time waiting for this vehicle.

I was waiting for this SUV from the last three years and finally when it came i was very happy with the car it looks awesome.But the problem with the vehiclke is the interior. Its an innova from the inside. I hope they change its interior as soon as possible coz oncce the prior bookings finish i dont think anyone will want to spend 23 lakh for a car with interriors like a 7 to 9 lakh car.

I bought this beast(2.7V) about 3 months ago. Its a great hard robust car. It has poor suspension for high speed on freeways/highways. But nice when into off road due to slow speed. It drinks petrol when you do above 130km/hr (7.0km/liter)but reasonably OK like driving in singapore at 100Km/hr(8.5km/liter). Excellent sitting comfort for 6 adult n 3 children.
