Disclaimer: If You have any shortage of time, then this Blog is not for you!!!
Thoughts dingling in my head…to write or not to?..Will it Pay off?..
Finally, I decide to blog after years of hard work..lol…All these days i have been writing, but i preferred the traditional Pen and Paper. But thanks to one of my friends who introduced me to this website.
Since i have been involved with Indian Music (all forms of Indian Music), for quite a number of years now, what better than the Music I love to start off my blogging season!!
Music is solely one’s choice and perception!! Agreed!! But can we ignore the taste of a typical Hyderabadi Biryani? (though i am not much of an animal eater, but still i know somehow that they taste great. I have learned and believed from Unanimous choices of other people who eat animals, that this Hyderabadi Biryani is a Legend) Or for that matter the taste of beautifully delicious Butter Masala Dosa of Vidhayarthi Bhavan!! Certainly not!!
Not long ago, I struck this conversation with a young “Cool” chap, cool he dressed, cool he looked. The Dude!!
Somehow all strangers, whom i strike conversation with, end up either talking about football or Music, and just in case, under the most unfortunate circumstances if I happen to meet a stranger who is a “Software Pro”, I make sure he remains a stranger!!!
This conversation headed toward Music, not unusually. He was kinda “rock-n-roll”dude!! But God willing I can handle any Musical dude!!
This dude found Pride in talking about the singers of the western world; The Mozarts, The Metallicas, The Eagles.. Truly great Entertainers!! Agreed.. Then I thought it was my duty, to remind this cool young dude of our very own Music. So i asked him, “Dude, do you know anything about Mohd.Rafi?”.. The reply i got was a shocker!! “No i am not too much into Bollywood Music”, he said.” But Mohd.Rafi does not belong to the bollywood music we know dude”, I tried defending.. but there was no point. This Cool Rookie did not have an idea as to who the Legendary Mohd.Rafi was!!
Most youngsters and few not so young (both sexes), feel, listening to Indian Music is not all that cool. “Kkkkkkoleeeeeeeeeeeeee” according to them is boasting an ipod or a Car’s Music system with lot of garbage in it!! Music accordingly for them is someone shouting and someone not singing at all(i.e rapping)!!
Indian Film Music of the past had a song to console anyone in all kinds of situations!!! The kind of lyrics that were produced with a combination of Music directors we had and to back them up, The singers!!
Be it Mukesh of “Saranga Teri yaad mein” or “Chandan Sa Badan” OR Talat of “Zindagi dene wale Sun” or “Tasveer Banata hoon, Taqdeer nahi Banthi” OR Aha The Chanting voice of Hemant Da of “Hein Apna Dil toh awaara” or “ye raat ye chandni phir kaha” or “jaane woh kaise” OR “The Inimitable Kishore” OR “Prem jogan Banke”- A Master piece implemented by Naushad Ali, sung by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali. Shamshad begum, Noorjahan, Asha Bhonsle and how can we forget the greatest Lata Mangeshkar.
I thought someone was missing in this list!!Of course the great(great is used too often nowadays),but genuinely great Manna Day(the Most classically trained singer till date in Bollywood) of “Tu Pyaar Ka sagar he” Or “Sur Na Saje Kya Gaon Mein” and the very talented Mahinder Kapoor of “In Hawaon mein,in Fiza mein” Or “Ye hawa,Ye hawa”;
For most youngsters Lata’s old songs are Kuch Kuch hota hein and after and Asha’a older songs are the bad remakes. The dudes and their girl counterparts know few Kishore’s songs since most of them are re-made and they are cool!!
Is it the bad quality of music now or the bad singers or what is it that is making us listen to some “Horror Songs”, Liking them so much and even putting them as Caller tunes/ring tones (giving even the callers/listeners the worst time of their lives)
With singers like H.R and K.G singing and even Judging few reality shows (while they themselves are confused about the singing part) – it is truly not a good sign for the Indian Film music!!We really need to respect good music and stop being ignorant about it!!
In a popular T.V channel-the reality singing show’s “Theme for the day” was “POP MUSIC” and guess who the Special Judges were ‘Ustad Ghulam Ali’ and ‘Suresh Wadkar’…well can you beat this non-sense?
God Save good old Indian Music!!

Well Written “Dude”!
We cannot expect everyone to like Mohd Rafi, Kishore da and the other greats of Hindi music. Thats ok.
But mockery of the same with all these remixes now a days is a shame.
If you cannot appreciate what they have done then you better lay off.
A suggestion and some opinion
the singers of the western world– The Mozarts.. I dont think Mozarts was a singer… Maybe you need to chnage the word “singers” there…
Kkkkkkoleeeeeeeeeeeeee” according to them is boasting an ipod or a Car’s Music system with lot of garbage in it!! — Well like u said , music is a personal choice.. So whats garbage to you might not be garbage to me.. U dont think any form of music can be GARBAGE ever and a true music lover sud never categorize music as such…
Old Indian music is good… But lata’s voice is soooo sweet that it gives me diabtest… Its the kind you listen to maybe once in a while… I do like old Indian music… But then, instead of listening to stuff like “Hum tum ek kamre mein bandh ho…”, i’d rather listen to :
I’m a man, I’m not a child…
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes
Who’s to say where the wind will take you?
Who’s to say what it is will break you?
I don’t know, where the wind will blow
Who’s to know when the time has come around?
I don’t want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye .. Just one example to quote out of many…
Ya DK…U2…Man i am a total music freak…
u2,Dylan,Floyd..name any..rock..n roll…black anything..
In this blog i totally came from hindi film point of view!!!
