Pub Cuture under caveat after the Mangalore Debacle

Ram Sena Pramod MutalikShri Ram Sena Chief Pramod Muthalik has been arrested in the wake of the Mangalore pub incident which threatened to unleash the Hindu fanaticism on reveling masses. Though there have been reports which suggest that Mr. Muthalik has been arrested on different grounds, the roots of which go back in the past when Mr. Muthalik tried to invoke a communal flare-up through some polemic pamphlet distribution.

Reveling weekenders were physically abused by Ram Sena activists in a Mangalore pub incident this week. Muthalik agreed that such a behavior from the right wing members of his party was outright sad but not completely unacceptable. After all, the pub culture isn’t theirs and it needed some such kind of repartee to keep the mothers and daughter safe from the onslaught of western ideology.

The former Bajrang Dal and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief who has no love lost for BJP said that what occurred in Mangalore was freakish yet a small incident perpetrated to uphold the sovereignty of Indian women. He believes like a true hindutva zealot that the Hindu cultural heritage deserves being kept away from the maddening tide of disco, pub and hip-hop culture. In fact, the Shri ram Sena activists also plan to keep the Valentine’s Day couple away from any public show of intimacy and affection.

32 activists are being held till now for physically assaulting boys and girls in the pub. Prasad Attavara is a high echelon person of the Shri Ram Sena’s Karnataka group who is being arrested in connection with the infamous accident perpetrated when the chief was away in Maharashtra. Muthalik has not been detained yet as there is no complaint but he was being held for a different case and handed over from Belgaum to Devanagare.

National Commission for Women, led by Nirmala Venkatesh has already ordered a probe which is committed to finding out the perpetrators of such shady act. Human right wing has jumped up to the occasion and rightly so. All across the country, there are shouts of banning the organization. Rajnath Singh had already suggested that strong action needed to be taken against Ram Sena for this heinous act.

What then looks like the immediate future of pub culture? Yes, it is true that it is not the oriental concept of revelry but globalization has made the entire world a village and smooth transitions of various cultures and its beliefs has marked the change of guard. In a very pleasant way, cultural assimilation has taken place and it has never seemed to defy the personal charm, individual beliefs of a country. Pub culture can never become a moral issue. Yes, a little delinquency and nefarious element do set in but with some regulated mechanism and proper administration in place, revelers can hardly go overboard.

What is perhaps required is personal moral custodianship and the knowledge of boundaries. Its no issue reveling and dancing away the night but then understanding where to draw the line is important. Perhaps both the sides were at fault in the Mangalore incident and the sour incident shall serve as a future precedence.

While writing this article, I guess you were still in the hangover caused by excessive drinking of alcohol. I dont see anything with ban on the following u mentioned.

First they banned Live Bands late night Discs : I dont know what way they are useful any human-being, so worth banning.

Then they BANNED Smoking in Public Places: Who cares if you puncture ur lungs. But dont harm others by smoking in public places

Now they Storm into pubs to get the BOYS beaten and the GIRLS Molested.: No one has right to beat others. But this pub culture is like slow-poison. Without anyone’s knowledge, it is spreading. Our Indian Culture is respected by the World except us. We have great importance to moral values of persons. If boys & girls are asked to submit the virginity certificate before marriage, i dont know homany city boys&girls would pass that. These people claim that they right to decide what they want. if Boys and girls want to roam where ever they want and have sex with whom ever they want, then there is no difference between street dogs and humans. Humans are highest creature because of their intelligence and moral values. If people want to be like animals, we have to no right say NO.

God Knows What Next?? (No Sun Glasses, Shorts, Skirts, Hugs & Kisses or What not)” : I dont think you a stupid to raise this. You know what govt is aiming at and what you want. You want freedom… freedom that is there in US, Dating, Live-in relationships… You tell what different are these from what animals follow.

I can’t believe the comment that the person left for this article.

First of all, he/she seems to think that going to pubs is synonymous to loosing virginity! For your information, YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG! (Unless of course the awful people like the hooligans in Mangalore molest them!)
Have these same politicians and people like you objected to drunk men on the streets doing absurd and vulgar things? Have these men been beaten in the pubs or statements made against them by the politicians? You objection is just because some women went for a benign drink and have some good time with friends! You are free to have your own opinions, but let other people have theirs, and don’t confuse benign enjoyment with morality.
Do understand that beating defenseless people and molesting is not moral either.

What is wrong with dating; and that too being open about it? Freedom of expression is a person’s birth right. No self-appointed misogynistic moral police has any right to say anything about it! We live in a free country, and not a place like the Taliban ruled Afghanistan.

These moral police are making life hell for women in India now. I am even scared to give a farewell hug to my father or brother these days when I go anywhere for the fear that a moral police is going to find fault with it! Is this what you want to become of India? And people like you just keep supporting them!!!

i totally agree with..what is said , we are a free people..having right to live according our wishes..express our emotions..we can’t live in seclusion…i just dont understand what is wrong in it.everyone has its own style of living …no one has the right to chalenge them..its time for us not only to grow in feild of techonology bt also need to broaden our minds n ome out of such narrow thinking

I completely agree with ASG. As long as these hoologans have indirect support from people like sri etc India does not have a chance. The issue is information: how many people who criticize a pub actually have been inside a pub? They judge it based on other accounts.

And frankly speaking, a closer look at these boys who participated in the deplorable behaviour at the pub seem like maniacs deprived of female attention. They can’t get the good times so let’s not allow others also to have it. This is worse than fascism.

And coming to the pink chaddi campaign: its the most ridiculous way to protest ever thought of. If anything this campaign will achieve is more publicity for muthalik and turn him from a nobody to someone like bal thackrey.

I do approve of the pub bharo part of the campaign and I will surely hit a pub in mlore on V-day. And if there are any women there I shall surely raise a toast to them – for their guts to come to a pub on v-day in spite of threats.

    Happy valentine’s day in advance!
