Slumdog Millionaire took home 8 awards at the Oscar Academy Awards 2009 yesterday. Most important of all the movie won Best Picture and Best Directing. It’s only convenient that the small movie was about a guy overcoming life’s obstacles and here the movie is winning Academy Awards. The movie also won awards for Best Song, Best Music Score, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.

Other award winners included Kate Winslet for best actress in the movie The Reader, and Sean Penn for best actor in the movie Milk. This was the first win Oscar win for Kate Winslet who said that when she was 8 years old she used to practice her Oscar acceptance speech with a shampoo bottle in the bathroom mirror.

There was an emotional time during the Oscars when late Heath Ledger’s family, including his sister and father, accepted his Oscar award for best supporting actor in Dark Knight. His actual award will be going to his daughter Matilda. The best supporting actress award went to Penelope Cruz for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, who asked if anyone has ever fainted before on the stage.
