Rapidshare is owned by a German company and it is basically a download site that hosts files. There are over a million files stored on Rapidshare and one can obtain these services either free or paid. The finance of the website comes from its subscribing users who choose the paid services of Rapidshare.
The Two Sites
Rapidshare has an English as well as German version site. However, both the sites claim to have completely different entities and organizations. The German site is called Rapidshare.de and has the very common German domain de. The headquarters of the organization are located at Cham in Switzerland. During 2006 the drives of the German site were claimed to be completely full because of which, the English site was set up. The aim was to transfer usage across the German site to the English one. During that time, people holding premium accounts in the German site could use the English and German sites simultaneously. This continued until the account was terminated or got expired. However, the other way round, that is using the English site account on the German site was not possible for these users.
Usability and features
Rapidshare has several noteworthy features, which make the site one of the most popular file sharing and upload sites today. If a user wishes to upload many files at a single time then he or she can upload 10 files at a time. However, the total size of the files should be within 200 MB. Even split archives of files are allowed to be uploaded on the Rapidshare server. There are also rewards programs available for users on Rapidshare. Users of a Rapidshare premium account can accumulate points depending on how much they use the site. These points can be subsequently redeemed for various awards. Currently, there are several useful awards such as Flying alarm clock, which can be redeemed against 30000 RapidPoints, Three Tiered Cubicle Defense, USB Plasma Ball, Amazon Voucher all of which are redeemable against 30000 RapidPoints. Then there is an Atlas Mini 3-Channel R/C Helicopter, a Rapidshare Package, which are redeemable against 50000 RapidPoints. There are higher-end awards like USB Webcam Missile Launcher, Delek Voice Changer Helmet and Anti-Gravity Globe, which are redeemed against 90000 RapidPoints.

Free vs Paid accounts
Most users prefer the free account provided by Rapidshare, which is also known as the Free Zone. Users of free accounts should upload files onto their respective Collector’s Account. Depending on how many files are downloaded by other users, points are accrued to the account, which can be redeemed against Premium account for free. The download file links can be organized into links, which are useful for organizing numerous download files into a single URL.
With the free Rapidshare account comes various limitations such as low bandwidth, captcha verification, upload limit, simultaneous download limitation etc.
Rapidshare Plus is an application that can be used to download a queue of Rapidshare links. It behaves like a RapidShare Download Manager to manage various Rapidshare links automatically. The good thing about the Rapidshare Plus Software is that you can track various parameters of your Download such as the download speed, Time Remaining, Time elapsed etc.

the Eleanor person is a scam. it says “NEW Rapidshare FREE PREMIUM ACCOUNT” but its fake. its just over 5mb cus they want rapidpoints from you so dont waste your time. file must be over 5mb and downloaded from a free user for them to get rapidpoints. SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!!!! katz.cd is one of the best sites to download stuff and use “Internet Download Manager” to download the files you want and you will get the best speed.

Rapidshare is simply the most popular file sharing site. i mostly download and upload my files on them. i also bought 2 premium accounts from rapidshare, one for me and the other one for my girlfriend.
