The new N-Series Nokia N79 is releasing in the 4 Quarter of 2008 before Christmas. The looks are almost similar to the recently launched N78, although differences can be seen in the Layout of the Keys in the current version. Nokia Claims that, this New Nokia N79 is the smallest, slimmest N-Series phone that it has ever released.

It comes with 5 different Back Covers (Light Sea Blue, Espresso Brown, Olive Green, White and Coral Red), out of which 3 different smart back covers are shipped along with the phone. The cool thing about these back covers is that if you change the back cover to say, a red one, then, even your background of the Screen would change to a red. This theme switching with different back covers is almost instantaneous as seen in a demo.

Nokia N79 Price: The new handset is expected to be available in October 2008 with a retail price of EUR 350, before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia is the market leader in cell phones worldwide. Nokia phones do seem to have fewer problems as compared to Motorola or HTC, both of which I have tried as well. I just wonder others are slowly taking market share of Nokia, in spite of better technical quality of Nokia phones. I wonder why? What I have noticed is that Nokia is loosing its edge in design. Nokia phones are more and more looking like a square box. They have not been able to come up with appealing designs lately. can bad design be the reason for Nokia’s dwindling market share?

In reply to Surya Prakash, with regards to losing market share, that may be also partly due to the drop in reliability of their phones, and the poor repair service/high price for repairs.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been a Nokia supporter for quite a while. Of late I’ve been seeing Nokia phone either break down often, or have inherent problems that can’t be solved with firmware upgrades. Sadly my latest nokia model, the N80IE, which i really liked because of all its features and applications, has also decided to fail on me. The price to repair it is so high it is just not worth it.

My sister, who once used Nokia as well, has now sworn off ever using a Nokia again, after her phone failed and Nokia repair service told her they could not repair it. My brother-in-law has also recently been given the runaround by Nokia service centre, doing everything with the phone except changing the parts of the phone that are obviously faulty. needless to say, the fault does not get solved.

BTW, we do not abuse our phones. We take very good care of them, so I doubt that the faults in the phone are due to our mis-use.

Now I’m really re-considering whether or not to buy another Nokia phone. I’ve almost lost faith in it, and I’m sure many others may have had similar experiences. Nokia products were not always this unreliable. We still have an old 8250 that is still working, and I’ve seen my colleagues 8250s with their casings so worn out from long use, and they still work.

Nokia will need to find back what they threw away, in terms of reliability, if they want to win back supporters. They will also need to greatly improve their repair service. At the higher prices we pay for Nokia phones compared to other brands, I’m now wondering if they are worth it anymore.

    A Nokia supporter from Singapore.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone has been out in the public arena for all of five minutes but it’s already the subject of a new update for its firmware, the core code that runs the handset. Tagged

N79 is not revolutionary, just a successor of Nokia N78. Design wise it is not as stylish as the N78, but the keypad is more finger-friendly than the N78. Touch sensitive Navi Wheel on this phone makes me think of the Samsung U900′s touch pad. It is all-round, but not revolutionary.
