The gaming industry has seen three majors – Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony capturing significant market share. As a user, if you are confused as to which game console is the best, read on to know more.
Diverse approaches
Microsoft and Sony as always are focusing on performance as opposed to the fun aspect of gaming. No wonder then you see fantastic graphics and interfaces that delight users time and again. However, not to be left behind, Nintendo is focusing on delivering fun and playable games, which have special controlling devices. The PS3 has been touted an alternative to the PC, while the Xbox is showcased as being used along with Windows Media Center. Therefore, the Xbox is an extension to regular streamed music as well as movies from PCs. Nintendo Wii focuses on evolving physically challenging games, which is why they have special Nunchuk controllers. The usage of accelerometers help players tilt and swing controllers to provide more interactivity.
Price factory
Sony’s Play station 3 is undoubtedly the most expensive out of all three companies’ consoles. A standard console can cost anywhere between 500 and 600 dollars. However, it comes along with a hard drive, optical drive replete with Blue-ray that provides high definition graphics, wireless controllers based on Bluetooth, video output of high definition quality, wireless and Wi-Fi networking capability. The wireless networking feature is currently available in premium versions of the PS3.
The Xbox comes at a cool 300 or 450 dollars, which is much lesser than the PS3. Unlike the PS3, which has many features in the premium versions, the Xbox only features a hard drive and optical drive powered DVD. There is also a wireless controller for games included. However, in order to be at par with the PS3, recently the Xbox 360 has been updated to include complete high definition video along with video output of 1080 p. The additional HD-DVD player is priced at 180 dollars, which ups the price to the same as the PS3.
The Wii from Nintendo is the least expensive, being priced at 250 dollars. It comes replete with DVD drive and wireless controllers. However, you cannot play DVD movies on Wii.
Multiple functions
The PS3 has been designed to function as a substitute for a regular PC. This is why with the premium versions you get a card reader, SD cards and flash cards, which facilitate photo storage and sharing, mouse and keyboard functionality and a web browser as well. So, in terms of basic functionality, the PS3 can very well be an alternative for a PC. The OS supported by PS3 is Linux and no other OS is supported by the Play Station at present.
In terms of performance, the PS3 is definitely a step ahead with Dolby Digital surround sound and a high definition video playback feature. The games featured in the PS3 are sold at 50 or 60 dollars for each game.
One drawback the Xbox 360 has is its limited hard drive functionality, because of which it cannot be used along with the online video site. The lack of adequate hard drive means one cannot save movies downloaded from the site.
So, Which do you think is the Best Console According to you : Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox or Sony PS3 ?
