Ford’s flagship model “The Ikon” is set for a relaunch with a face-lift version this November. This popular model from Ford took the market by storm when it was launched way back in 1999. It had had a minor cosmetic changes in 2003 & a new variant “Josh” was also launched. But it had to struggle in the industry due to stiff competition. This time around it has more European look with its new headlamps & a fresh front bumper. When we look at the new grill in the front we can see it has a lot more appeal than the previous model which nicely fits into the reshaped fascia. The rear however remains simple with minor changes to the tail lamps.
Over all this complete reshaped design has young & aggressive look which brings back Ford rite back into the competition. One thing to watch out for the the popular version of diesel version of Ikon is would be back with a much refined 1.4 liter. The 1.8 diesel would make way for this new 1.4 version which is already a hit in the Fiesta. What really matters now is the pricing. Ford needs to make a clever move to counter the Dzire, Logan & the Fabia which are the current leaders in the segment.
What we believe is, the focus needs to be more on reducing the maintenance cost & its spares. The main concern for the 1.8 version of the Ikon was its high maintenance cost which brought down its sale drastically. Now that it has more refined 1.4 Liter diesel engine like the Fiesta, we hope it makes good debut.
