In today’s age, an increasing number of people have started becoming more eco-friendly. If you too wish to join the bandwagon then make sure to follow these simple steps to protect our environment.
Natural is the key
You can make simple choices that do away with all synthetic and artificial substances. These substances harm and damage the environment adversely. For example, instead of using plastic bags or polythene bags try using paper bags instead. Many countries have started banning the use of plastic bags and by refraining from using these you too can contribute towards the environment. Instead of using artificial plants, buy the real thing instead. They look prettier smell great and will not harm earth. In terms of fabrics that you wear, avoid nylon and synthetic fabrics. Cotton is a great choice just as other natural fabrics are like silk, hemp, jute etc. In addition to being safe environmentally, these fabrics allow your skin to breathe easily.
Cleaning alternatives
If you are used to purchasing the store products for cleaning your floors, cupboards and furniture think differently. Try using vinegar mixed with water for achieving the same clean effect on your glass surfaces. For tough stains on floors, try combining baking soda or borax with vinegar without diluting it with water, for a fantastic cleaning effect. You can even remove mildew and other grime using such a solution. Besides this, such a solution is mild and non-toxic. Therefore, if you have children in the house you will want to ensure your cleaning agents are safe for them.
Recycling is essential
The more you purchase and hoard, the more the environment suffers. Be it cosmetics, hygiene products, home care essentials or other supplies, you need to first think if you really need it or not. Often, people go buy new cleaning cloths, when an old t-shirt or used garment can suffice just as well for this purpose. You can even use this recycling principle for your food, Let’s say you have cooked some minced meat the previous night. You can always use this as a stuffing for a nice burger or grilled sandwich. In this manner, you cut down on wastage, save money and help the environment. Nowadays, there are many manufacturers who recycle products as part of their returns policy. In the case of printer consumables, manufacturers, to cut down on wastage, recycle many cartridges. The more is the wastage, the more are landfill sites burdened. If you love to sew you can transform an old fabric into a nice t-shirt or skirt. With a little imagination and a few embellishments, you can do wonders with an old piece of cloth. You can find a vast number of resources online free, which teach you how to recycle basic fabrics and old clothes to create fantastic new pieces you will love!
Paper recycling
It is a known fact that you can easily recycle paper and cut down on its wastage. If you are printing a document, make sure to use both sides of the sheet to cut down on the number of sheets you use. Never throw old sheets of used paper. Instead, you can use them for lining cupboards or writing something down on them. If you have a stack of newspapers piled up you can use them for cleaning glass windows and also removing excess moisture from cabinets.
Plant more trees
We cannot say this enough. The more trees our earth has, the more we can protect it. As individuals, we can contribute to the environment by planting more trees. Even if it is a small sapling you can plant it to make sure it will grow into a huge tree that shades people and provides protection from the pollution in the air. One of the main reasons for increased global warming is because of insufficient trees. Incessant cutting down of vegetation across the earth has led to such a calamity. By planting more trees you are helping to sustain the ecological balance.
Become a vegetarian or better still – a vegan!
By cutting down on your consumption of meat and poultry you help bring about more ecological balance. Many species on this earth have become slowly extinct. Hunting and poaching for many species of animals has become illegal and punishable as per law. By refraining from eating such meat products you can help ensure that a lesser number of animals are killed.
Faux fur instead of real fur
Many celebrities have started shunning the usage of real fur because of the way in which it is extracted. The animals are subject to intolerable cruelty before the fur can be taken out. Instead, use faux fur, which looks and feels just like the real thing- minus the guilt!
