Hollywood is besotted with the idea of abduction. For the umpteenth time, something along
the lines is due to be released. Renny Harlin’s 12 rounds is an action genre movie set to be released soon. The film boasts of champion wrestler John Cena in its lead. The film will be produced by WWE studios. It has been shot completely and rather expeditiously between February and May 2008.
On March 13 2009, anticipating public would finally get to see how John Cena, a New Orleans police detective takes the aid of a FBI agent and tracks the kidnappers of his girlfriend. Now, have we heard of this plot before? Perhaps too often and in different lights has the script been played in Hollywood? Let’s just hope in absence of conclusive evidence that Renny Harlin proposes a fresh and palatable concept to this movie.
In times when Hollywood is joyfully treading on the paths of “suspension of disbelief”, it would be very warming to see the helplessness of an officer all inclined to get her girl back. Perhaps, a Daniel Craig with the pain in his eyes and cold taut grit all over his face would have done the role proud. We hope that wood face wrestlers can show the same arc of helplessness and grit with their limited cinematic exposure and thespian skills.
The film also has the services of Steve Harris; remember “The Practice” guy, Aidan Gillen, Taylor Cole, Brian J and Ashley Scott. So the star cast looks well chalked out and we would be waiting with bated breath to see the histrionics of Harris playing the FBI agent. This man knows his craft for sure.
Fox atomic studio has done some great cinematographic work in the past and handled quite a few bigger productions, so it won’t be much to anticipate that it does a decent work here. The crew seems to be happy with the director who had lapped up great applauds for his masterful horror genre project “A nightmare on Elm Street”.
Renny had then blurred the lines between vision and reality by portraying a child serial killer who enters into the nightmares of all the children in Elm Street and at the same time cuts them into pieces in reality. The movie was an instant hit and in fact, few consider it to be the greatest horror movie ever made.
Here the horror aspect is limited to making a wrestler act and this is a far more pleasant horror to tackle. Harlin had also measured up to the action genre with a perfectly crafted Die Hard 2. Here, we are hoping that he can bring the same pace and unnerving facet of a thriller into the storyline. The plot is simple and the screenplay will have a lot of role.
Not much is being brought to the fore about the movie yet. It’s still very much in the wraps and here is wishing that what comes out is up to the mark and becoming of a director with some vision.
We will also be waiting for Mr. Eugene Young ala Steve Harris. The way he has tackled his role in the legal drama, The Practice, and built his character through each episode is quite a statement on the caliber of the man.

I can’t wait to see this. I love these type of movies.
I love John Cena, he is the hottest guy in wrestling execpt for Shawn Michaels.I love the movie he was in like the movie “The Marine.” I can’t wait to see 12rounds.I know it’s out it’s just that I don’t have the money for it.
