Jaane Tu ya Jaane na . . .A Youngistan Special
I ve heard some say old wine new bottle do not always kling ! But after Jaane Tu, you would join me when I disagree with the statement. An unknown cast, (Genelia is still unknown in bollywood), an untried director and a plot recycled from so many movies from the past won’t stop “Jaane Tu” from hitting box-office profits very soon . It’s a prime slice of few young fun loving bunch of friends trying hard to keep up with the feelings within.
With Jaane Tu, it’s a case of the reality of the situation being dwarfed by some honest and good humor. You wont find a lost moment throughout the movie(except for some towards the end of first half). It will make you feel you are at home on your couch with popcorn and watching a FRIENDS look alike sitcom.The best things about such films and sitcoms are they are so very predictable but your mind does not want to wander around predicting wats coming next. It would rather let the situations fall upon and let the feeling sink in deep.
Was actually looking for a prequel of Dil Chahatha Hai or may be Boys (I hate to compare this to DCH, but I can’t help it). But while DCH was consistently funny, and the acts were always expertly executed, Jaane Tu suffers from some inexperience. There are several parts of the movie that could have been hilarious but were simply under done. I could see the idea right there, and I knew that the writers had a very funny idea in their heads, but the director did not manage. At few and I say only few parts he forgot to get it all straight by drawing some things out too long or simply doing things without a punch. The film does have some shades of ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ (with Genelia) or ‘Ninagagi’ in kannada. But even after saying all this, I am no hesitant man when I say that this movie is worth watching.
It would not be fair on me if I discuss the story line completely or describe some scenes. I know you would not enjoy it to the best if I did so. But for some spoilers, here goes the bigger picture of the plot. Theres the new Khan, Jai Singh Rathor (Rats) the most non-violent Rajput ever, Genelia as the violent and passionate Aditi (Meow) Bombs, Rotlu, jignesh, Shaleen. The story takes place just before the end of the college days and some time after it. Rotlu craves in his heart secretly for Aditi. Bombs’ heart beats for Jai. Jiggy is a typical gujju lad trying to look cool with his golden colored hairs. You would definetely want to have Shaleen in your group of friends ! . You know that Jai and Aditi are perfect for each other, people around know that, their cool papa mamas can see that. But the people who matter the most do not !!! They have been best of buddies and stood for each other in times of thick and thin. Rats and Meow are so unlike each other but still share amazing chemistry between them in some way which is not easy to understand. They decide to find a match for each other and they do so as well. What happens next is for you to find out !! Go out, chillout and enjoy the movie which comes as a pleasant breeze after movies like De Taali, Mere Baap and likes.
Acting and music are the two pillars which usually carry such movies. And this time around, acting has been good and the music is too good. The new chocolate hero Imran Khan lives up to his expectation with his innocent face. I am sure his uncle will take a class or two on improving his acting skills after the movie. But he definetely watchable. Confess honestly, werent we all waiting for another beautiful and bubbly Juhi chawla to hit the screen ? Boy Genelia fits the gap and absolutely perfectly. She is funny, shes beautiful, she looks fresh and the best part is that good acting comes naturally to her as well. Rotlu, Bombs, Jignesh and Shalen are cool too. The two ‘ Could-Have-Been‘ s are decent enough too. New Age mom, once Mrs Sarabhai Rathna Pathak excels beautifully. Naseeruddin shows why he is called class. All in all no loss for your money in acting department. And for a first timer, the direction is very good. It’s the freshness in looking at things works for the film. He exactly knows what each role means to the story. But as said earlier, some scenes look underdone, but all is forgiven when the end result is so good.
The music of the film does require a special mention. Simply because a movie shall bring in young hearts into the theatre only if there is some music which suits them. And the legend A.R.Reheman delivers yet again with another amzing comosition. It has everything Foot tapping number, classical, Jazz, Pop, Romantic you name it, the movie has it. My personal best being ‘Kahin Toh’. The new discovery is the music legend’s lead guitarist ”Rashid Ali”. With fading singers in bollywood like Sonu, Udit and Reshammia’s, guys like Atif, Mohit Chauhan, Rashid with different voice textures are set to take over the singers title very soon. Ten on Ten for the music of Jaane Tu.
So the Bottom line verdict : ‘A must watch for youngistan and also for all those young at heart’.
PS: Why would anyone want to know how love would look like in 2050 when one can see Love, the most beautiful thing, right here right now !!!

JNYJT is a refreshing movie…sometimes u need to see a chilled out love story…aamir always comes up with what the need of the hour is…good review
wat do i say abt this movie man it`s jus amazin man jus too too good …….. the whole thig whosoever has compared this to DCH is very right cuz it`s another refreshing movie tht u`d love to watch it again n again…… this a simple movie talkin abt love n way it`s benn told is jus so spectacular …… man the way jiggiz girl was interested in the story tht the whole gang was narratin abt JAY n ADITI d same way i was very curious to know gosh wat really happens ……. thumps up to Imran n Genelia n the otherz …. the movie is more over fantastic man ….. way to go guys …… more over my fav song being “KABHI KABHI ADITI ” as i do really love aditi….he he hope ppl who know me will understand

Hey well it was really a very good movie.Being a movie bug I dont miss any bollywood movies,but after a long time really enjoyed a movie…Well i guess the story is so very realistic tht most of us would hav come across this phase in our life at one point or another..It was jus an refreshing movie to the core.All the songs are fabulous….
This is one the best movies I have seen. Its very well directed giving every one a performence to remember. I can easily relate to so many instances in the movie to my life. Man its an emotional treat. Though I dont understand the crap thing about luv,it showed the tender part of friendship & the importance of an healthy relationship among them.

its a crap movie. wats new in this love story. and the 2nd half was the worst part. i wasted my money and those ugly jokes making fun of gujus by jignesh etc . that horse rider in his dreams , did it connect to the stry. nd the climax, at international airport , no security , i wonder how this airport is still present. it must hav been destroyed by the tererist years ago.
Its not one of the best i have seen so far, but its definetly refreshing. Jokes were terrible, lots of ‘cliche’ in the movie. Only thing which i didnt like in the movie was how they realised there love for each other, i would have liked it more if there relationship with their partners were going well but still couldnt live them…
My rating 3/5…just for being refreshing and some nice songs.
