Piggyback Internet Marketing

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

What do we refer as piggyback? It’s a concept when somebody rides home successfully owing to somebody else’s talent. We know how Swiss Davis Cup team rides piggyback on the mettle of Roger Federer. The coinage applies in the same perspective in almost all the arenas. Let’s talk of it in regards to internet marketing.

A site hosts the complementary product and advertisement of another site and does it for free. This is the core concept of this new coinage: piggyback internet marketing. You may think how it might benefit both the companies. Well! This is quite simple to fathom. The company which is acting as the merchant here and dishes out complementary items is definitely getting a fillip in its sales by providing from a larger distribution network. It can reach out to more people if it has a hundred affiliates or more rather than going the whole hog alone. So this becomes a noble mode of advertising and the freebies are just a small part of the advertisement costs.

On the other hand, the site acting as affiliate gets to work for a reputed site for which it might get affiliate back links from the site and even many who go to the merchant site might add the affiliate as the referencing site. This obviously makes the affiliate site more known and works a great deal in raising its PR web page ranking.

It works in a simple manner. The visitors who come to an affiliate are not redirected to the merchants’ site through PPC. This is generally a part of normal affiliate marketing. In piggyback marketing, the visitor is being provided freebie compressed in a zip file in a Word Press theme. (Most of the times, this is the format). Well! The visitor feels happy about the gift and thus references the site. The site begins to come in the limelight. Also it gets great affiliate links. This way, it quickly rises up the Google SEO ladder, something which is only remotely possible in the early days of the site despite hiring great many SEO firms. (Read Google Sandbox Technique).

Affiliate marketing is a great adventure that has done quite well. It does not use free networking from the affiliate’s side and also the merchants do not float the freebies. Yet, in a very special way, it also falls on the piggyback internet marketing formula. For each redirect or a click, the affiliates get PPC (pay per click). They might even get the revenue through commission or fixed income. So we can see that the merchants’ ride piggyback on the reputation of the affiliate and the visitor footfall on his site; Higher the footfall, higher the chances of redirects, sign-ups and sale conversion.

The world has beautifully come to a pass where internet is touching each horizon of our performance. It has made it possible for us to rake in moolah from home. Piggyback internet marketing seems like a novel concept far ahead of it times. Let’s see how many niches more we can travel down.

This site may harm your computer – Google

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Google Search Results displaying the line “This site may harm your computer.” next to each search result.

Is this some kind of a Joke. I get this screen everytime I visit a site. The best part is the message is even seen next to Google.com

google search results

Initially I thought Google was notifying webmasters when they believe a site has been hacked though the search results. But when I saw that it showed the same message against Google.com itself, I laughed aloud.

This is the Page that shows up after you click any of the Search Results

Google GDrive

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

google gdriveGoogle, the most popular search engine by a long mile, has had successes in connecting fields (read Orkut) and its own email service is on a perpetual high (read gmail). The always changing face of the Google keeps doing the same: keep changing.

Google GDrive, a web tool that would stake its claim to take complete control of the PCs, in under construction stage. The analytical engineers are sealing all pores and trying to give it an indispensable outlook. If the tool hits the market and becomes a success, Google may see its already burgeoning bank accounts flushing with inordinate funds.

The GDrive would have intended space for the emails, bookmarks, favorites, hyperlinks and other concrete things, adding three-fold performance to the normal drives C, D or E. Though Microsoft and Bill Gates are repainting strategies to come up with its own unique instrument called Mesh, and get predominance because of the way they boast of their presence in the worlds PCs, it seems the competition might turn them both into a quasi-community market with both selling lie hot cakes.

Google has the penchant of thinking ahead of time, and the inspirational GDrive would surely have elements unheard of. They happen to have a secret recipe for success and even the best are found wanting in cracking Google’s success code.

One fails to gauze though how Google intends to earn through this Google GDrive. But everyone, that trusts Google with network sharing, secretly knows that it has hidden aces up its sleeves.

Top 10 Best Digg Clones

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Digg is a community-participation site where you can dig for stories. A community-participation revolution was going on while it was being launched a shade over 4 years ago. Social networking sites were breathing a lot of pleasant fire and blogging sites working towards community blogs had become the order of the day. These made certain Mr. Kevin Rose decide on creating a community platform where you could submit a story, link it to the database, comment on a given story and also vote for or against it. Digging and burying are the terms used for voting for or against a story.

Though Digg has cornered some criticism for the fact that it can be manipulated by users for the purpose of adding sensationalism, Digg has well and truly stood guard as a quality pioneer. Since its success, many Digg clones have entered the world of Digg-like applications. These again are sites that use stories and link them to the database for the purpose of voting for or against it.

Most of such sites have two sections; new stories and popular stories. Registered users submit links, titles, description and a story. These then become a part of the database. Just as it gets its mass readership (in form of positive voting), it gets appreciated to ‘popular stories”. For this to happen, a story shall get half of the votes that popular stories get. Stories receiving over a 100 negative votes are automatically deleted from the database. Looking at the success of Digg and finding it to be a great monetizing and recreational web activities, the Digg clones have come up with similar ideas. Let’s take a look into top 10 Digg clones in operations.  Their weight and rankings differ owing to different norms of evaluation.

MySpy- Meant to cater chiefly to the south Asian region, it is a big house for stories, news and articles, though there have been complaints about its screen that perhaps confuses about the story posts, everything else seems to be without glitch. Each time, while posting an article, you need to press the back button with this one. Overall, MySpy gets a positive vote

Citizen bay- This one is linked with indigenous news of America. While it has the plus points of featuring events, classifieds and opinion, it’s minus is the fact that only opinions are open to being voted. The interface is not all that great.

Del.icio.us- It is a social bookmaking site that only allows for title. Having said this, it has amassed a fair subscriber base. It has friendly uniform resource locators and case sensitive tags. The front page has been recently renovated. It further has tag bundles for fast access and various color formats for bookmarks.

Shout wire- Another well-formatted site that is also a very effective operator. The voting structure is well defined and the overall framework of the site is improvising and intuitive. Critics suggest that the vote tallying system in the event of submitting an article needs to be worked on. Overall, even this one gets a positive vote.

Furl- it is another social bookmaking site using categories, comments and voting patterns. While adding a bookmark, it automatically alerts for duplicates.

Staralicious- As the name suggests, this one talks about the stars of Hollywood. With such a reader-loved topic, you can simply behave like a celebrity bog and amass high readership. The site does it the hard way. It uses all the nice articles written on Hollywood to increase its subscriber base. The format of the site is reader friendly and the interface is not daunting or confusing at all. This makes it easily navigable.

Reddit- Reddit is a very smart one. It has a huge subscriber base and the articles are of top quality. Its bottleneck is the fact that it only allows for titles.

Jump it- this one is a niche site yet it has some following. It’s related to the PSP hacks. There is homebrew revolution on air with each hacker claiming he has outsmarted the latest firmware upgrade from Sony. The site helps in voting for or against such claims.

Bibilog- Working with an intuitive interface, the site talks about all that is nice and fine with videos, games and tempting links. This way, it can magnetically attract readership. Link submission at a very fast pace marks the site.

Blinklist-Though it is flushed with excellent articles and stories, it still irritates users at times due to a large quantity of unwanted pop-ups. Needless to say that such pop-ups take away from the quality of readership. Overall, the voting structure and the digging and burying features are quite likeable.

These are few of the Digg-like applications that are doing well. These might not be the best in terms of subscriber base but are certainly doing well in terms of quality.

Twitblogs – Twitter + Blogging

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Twitblogs- letting you express with no word-constraint

twitblogsOften a blogger has felt the need to express without the constraints of words. Often he has liked to focus on images or embed some graphic for rendering a little more meaning to his writing. All this is sometimes difficult to achieve owing to space constraint. Now it’s possible, quite possible in fact. You can log on to Twitblogs and help yourself with as much as you want to write and express.

If you are already a member of www.twitter.com, then you can use that ID to start with twitblog.

Those who have been infatuated with macro blogging will know how it lets you use a lavish spread of pictures, videos and texts. Also, the simpler of the two, micro-blogging, lets you communicate easily with friends. But sometime space can be a constraint with both of them. A mere 140 characters can be a nightmare for those who use the fancy of words to align the right images in readers’ mind.

Twitblogs is still in alpha and there are some issues with special characters in title. They need to be sorted out first. In about a fortnight from now, things will be in place and then twitblog might start its journey of helping people with better expression.

Twitblog, the better way of reaching out to twitter social network has a problem though. What it claims is right but then there are many more applications which are used in market today to let a blogger go beyond140 words so where is the novelty. Perhaps, we will have to look beyond the alpha and beta versions to judge that.

Internet Explorer Flaw

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

internet explorer flawEvery coin has two sides and not both of them are equally good. So is the case with the Microsoft Internet Explorer. This is one of the most commonly used web browser all over the world. There are numerous features available with this browser and this is an undeniable fact that Internet explorer is the pioneer product from Microsoft stores. But these days too many complains are coming up about the functionality of Internet Explorer. If you follow the internet explorer news regularly, you can keep yourself informed about all possible internet explorer problems.

Sometimes when you open up too many windows with internet explorer, some of them stop working or responding all of a sudden. At times the IE restarts on its own. These are still less harmful than the Internet Explorer Virus. It is reported that there is a threat related to the Internet explorer security which has already affected about two million computers from all parts of the globe. Hence you can very well understand that the next turn might be yours. Moreover there is no patch or fix declared about the threat from Microsoft’s end. It ensures that thousands of computers using IE browser can get affected just by surfing the internet.

Browser virus problems are not new in the world of internet but when it occurs with Internet Explorer, the future of millions of computers falls at stake. Though according to Microsoft, the virus attacks generally occur from the pornographic sites but it is not an authentic reason as there are other sites as well which cause virus infections. People, who are too scared of a system failure, often switch over to other browsers like Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome etc. Some times Microsoft suggests this solution as a temporary one. But when the browser is being used by the corporate companies, this is not a feasible solution at all because the management cannot keep changing the entire system every now and then.

Another common problem that most of the Internet explorer users face is with deleting the history. Purging the cookies, history and track records is a necessity for many of the users, especially when they are working on the office system. But at times, Internet explorer bars the users from doing this. There are certain websites which help in clearing the history which is not reasonable though. Sometimes IE 6 and IE 7 both show problems with different functionalities. But this might be a problem with the installation. It will work more efficiently if you reinstall it after uninstalling. Generally it is observed that this simple procedure works wonderfully on improving the internet explorer functions.

Internet Explorer flaw can be common and occurring more frequently these days but in order to solve most of them you can seek support from the site of Microsoft. Now as far as the severe ones are concerned, Microsoft is always working their best to eradicate them.

The day will soon come when you will use IE without a trace of threat of any sort.

Why LSI maybe your ticket to higher SERPs

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

LSI is the latest buzzword these days. In its expanded form it is called Latent Semantic Indexing and is being quickly adopted by the top search engines of today. So if you are just starting out with your website and would like to get noticed faster then LSI techniques can help you immensely.

What is LSI?

LSI is basically a technique whereby the focus of sorting data is based on the content instead of just the keywords. Thus while Google and other top search engines used to primarily lay emphasis on keyword density now they are focusing on LSI more. Thus if a user were to type in the search phrase ‘bark’ it could either refer to a dog’s bark or the bark of a tree. While earlier, search results would be based on the number of times the word bark is found in a site, today you will find more relevant results on search engines. Data across the internet is arranged in the form of clusters and these clusters have a unique association with one another. LSI focuses on sorting and gathering all of these data clusters to arrive at more informed and relevant search results.

So how does it work?

Basically, when a user types in a keyword or phrase, if the search engine was using LSI techniques then it would parse the set of keywords to decide what context of results should be produced. Thus taking the same example as before, for the word ‘bark’, the LSI based search engine would parse through the complete sentence or phrase to decide what the user is actually looking for. Let’s say the user had typed in ‘bark mahogany’. Once the second word is parsed the search engine would know that the user wants more information on the bark of the Mahogany tree. Similar technique is applied to all other search terms keyed in by users.

Why LSI is so great?

LSI is a novel concept in the sense that the work of sorting and gathering information is now the search engine’s onus instead of the user’s. What good is a search engine if it only presents data which you have to again parse through yourself. Often, we find that the real information we need may actually be on the second or third pages of a search engine’s results. No longer can websites rely on simply stressing on their keyword density. Instead, the focus is more on the context of the content being searched for by the user.

How does it help us – the users?

You may have noticed by now that when you type in a search phrase into any of the popular search engines, you are getting more relevant results than what you used to get earlier. The good thing about this is that you spend lesser time navigating through web pages to seek specific information. This saves you precious time and energy. In addition, you get all the information you require within the first few links of a search engine result page!

Why websites need to adopt LSI

If you are running a website your SEO experts may have been guiding you on the importance of keyword density. Hence, your strategy till now would have been to procure the most popular keywords according to the niche industry vertical you operate in. There have been numerous software and tools to help website owners parse through the best keywords online. However, all of these tools and software may soon become obsolete what with the whole keyword density subject becoming more and more redundant. Instead, the next big thing, so to speak is actually going to be LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing. It is what all the major search engines are lapping up! So if you want to continue achieving higher SERPs then you need to understand and adopt LSI on your SEO strategy.

How to go about it

There are many tools available these days, using which you can adopt LSI techniques to tweak your content. The main thing is to not repeat the same keyword or keywords over and over again. Instead, you need to make the keywords more natural sounding. In other words, try saying the same keyword in a different way – the way users would interpret it. For example, you could express the keyword ‘soccer’ as ‘football’, ‘rugby’, ‘game’ or any other way users normally would say it. Having such a broad-based approach towards keyword usage in the content is the best way to make use of LSI. This way, search engines would seek you out faster, users would be able to identify and bookmark your site quicker and you will find your site achieving higher SERPs in no time!

Facebook Attacked – Koobface Worm

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Facebook, one of the biggest and most popular social networking sites is again tackling a new malware which is spreading throughout its network. This new malware is the latest variant of a well known ”Koobface” virus which was first traced in middle of the year.

Koobface has dozens of variants which are already known but this new variant which is presently in a non-stop action and is of new kind, though its working is similar to the older ones. Koobface appears as a text message or as a video (shared with an infected friend) with a message, “Look you were filmed all naked”, “You looked funny in this video” etc.

After a person click any of these links, virus comes into initial steps and user sees a software update massage on their screen, which is an attempt from the virus to install tinyproxy.exe, its proxy server manager. Once it is installed and system is rebooted, this server then keeps a track of all the user activity. The main aim of this virus is to get all personal information of the user like user names, passwords, credit card number etc.

Facebook is already aware of this problem and have already posted instructions on how to remove the infection. They are also taking all measures to make people aware of this new virus.

How to Increase Google Adsense Revenue

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Google adsense is a great means of generating some revenue for your website and basically all you have to do is to place the code given to you when you join the Google Adsense program. This code connects to the keyword relevant Google ad server content advertising database and you are paid a percentage of the revenue Google receives when visitors click on the ad; in essence you have nothing to pay or lose.

There are, however, means of increasing your Google adsense revenue. The main idea lies in having Google ads merged with the content of your site and not looking just like advertisements. Besides this, it is important that the Google ad is placed in the right position of the web page. Usually, visitors to a site read content found in the center of the webpage.

Correct Placement of your Google ads

So the best place to place adsense would be at the top of the page, at the beginning of the page content. Make sure that the Google ads merge into the web content and look more like external links providing additional information to the visitor than an advertisement.

If there is no space at the top of the page, the next option is to place the ads on the left hand side of the page. This is because people have the habit of reading matter from the left to the right of the page and thus are more likely to notice the ads in the left column of the page.

Choose the right ad format

When using Google adsense, you can choose the ad format you want for your ad. The most widely used options are the “leaderboard” and the “wide skyscraper” formats, but contrary to popular belief, these are not the optimum options. This is because these particular formats make the ads look like advertisements, and this is something that should be avoided. The best format has been shown to be the “large rectangle” which has been proven to bring the most click-thrus.

Although borders may make a Google ad look neat and tidy, it is better to get rid of these from the AdSense blocks. This is because removing the border makes the advertisement merge seamlessly with the web content.

Use the right font size and style

Another point to remember to increase your Google adsense revenue is to use the same font size and style in your web content and Google adsense block. Moreover, make the colors of the font in the ad blocks match your website font color. All this helps in making your ad look like a part of your web content.

Avoid having too many distractions on your web page such as too many links and graphics. These only make potential clickers move to another section of your web site and perhaps miss seeing your Google adsense ad. Nonetheless, you could consider linking to different pages on your own site which have AdSense ads that will benefit you.

Bear in mind though that each web page should focus on a single topic.

It is even better if each page of your website focuses on a single topic as this leads to better keyword optimization of web pages and a higher page ranking. This in turn leads to more traffic generation to your site.

By following all these simple but effective tips, you will be able to increase your Google Money Substantially.
