Tuesday, January 27th, 2009Watch Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz Live Streaming Online Free. On February 28, 2009, the Ring Magazine World Lightweight Championship will be determined when titleholder Juan Manuel Marquez meets with Juan Diaz at the Houston Toyota Center. The 12 round bout is sponsored by Southwest Airlines and Cerveza Tecate and presented by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. It will be televised on HBO’s World Championship Boxing.

Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez is one of Mexico’s top fighters. He has a record of 49-4-1 and has boxed professionally since May of 1993. Since then, he has competed in three different weight classes and claimed the world title in both the junior lightweight and featherweight divisions. He made history on September 13, 2008 when, after moving up to 135 pounds, the 35-year-old defeated the powerful Cuban boxer Joel Casamayer to claim the Ring Magazine World Lightweight Championship. He landed a textbook right hand on Casamayer in the 11th round, and even though Casamayer got back up, Marquez sent him back to the mat and won the round.
Juan Diaz, called the Baby Bull, was only nine when Marquez debuted in 1993, but just because he’s ten years younger than Marquez does not mean he’s weaker. In fact, even though he’s only been boxing for eight years, he has sped through the ranks and earned a reputation as a very exciting boxer. He currently has a 34-1 record and has 17 KOs. He has held the World Lightweight Championship three times, during which he defeated Julio Diaz and Acelino Freitas.
As an amateur, Diaz thought he would represent Mexico at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. However, he later found out he was too young to participate in the games. Rather than spending four more years at the amateur level, Diaz turned pro. At the young age of 16, he made his professional debut. Diaz won his first match and the next four matches after that by KO or TKO. He continued his winning streak until March 8, 2008, when a split decision game Nate Campbell the win and the IBF, WBA, and WBO Lightweight World Champion titles.
Diaz’s last fight was on September 6, 2008, against Australian Michael Katsidis. This bout also took place at the Toyota Center, giving Diaz experience with the arena. Diaz defeated Katsidis to claim the IBO Lightweight title in a No Retreat, No Surrender event. Two of the three judges, including Gale Van Hoy, the ringside judge, game Diaz the win.

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009Mayorga vs. Angulo Canceled
Ricardo Mayorga has withdrawn from his scheduled bout on February 14 against unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo.
After the unexpected withdrawal by former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga (14-0, 11 KOs), promoter Gary Shaw struck a deal for junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo to face Danny Perez (34-5, 17 KOs) (Perez replaces Ricardo Mayorga).

Some people have very romantic dates planned for February 14, 2009 – St. Valentine’s Day -

(Fig: Alfredo Angulo)
but the date between Alfredo “Perro” Angulo and Ricardo Mayorga is anything but romantic. The two junior middleweight boxers will box live on HBO, and everyone expects the match to start with a bang and only get more fast-paced as it goes on.
Angulo, a boxer from Mexico, goes by the nickname Perro, which means “dog” in English. He plans on going after Mayorga just like a dog with a bone. His tenacity has proven victorious before; however, he has never taken on a former world champion before, and many wonder if he can stand up to Mayorga. Angulo is known for being a relentless puncher, though, so he may have more of a chance than critics give him credit for.
Angulo has a record of 14 to 0 with 11 KOs, and he’s coming off of a ten-bout KO streak that began back in 2006. Since he began his professional career, he has never suffered a loss. He has also represented Mexico at the 2004 Olympic Games and is ranked in the top ten by the WBC, WBO, and IBF (third, fifth, and eighth, respectively). Angulo is considered by many to be one of the hottest boxing stars in the world at the moment. He has defeated Andrey Tsurkan, Archak TerMeliksetian, and Richard Gutierrez, all top light middleweight boxers. The bout with Tsurkan, Angulo showcases Angulo’s rapid, relentless hitting skills – he averaged over 100 punches during each round.

(Fig: Ricardo Mayorga)
Mayorga, on the other hand, has a record of 28-7-1 and has had 22 KOs in his career. The boxer from Nicaragua has defeated Fernando Vargas, Andrew Lewis, and Vernon Forrest, and he has held world titles in both the welterweight, super welterweight, and light middleweight divisions. Mayorga has previously retired from boxing. In October of 2004, three days after defeating Felix Trinidad, he announced he was leaving the sport. However, slightly less than a year later in August of 2005, he made his comeback.
The 35 year old boxer’s most recent bout was with Shane Mosley back in September. Mayorga did well in the beginning, but Mosley knocked him down with a right punch with 15 seconds left, leaving Mayorga battered. Mosley then took him down with several fast hits and then a left hand that left Mayorga on the mat again. The referee ended the match with a second left on the clock and declared Mosley the winner. Mayorga has also lost to several other big names in boxing, including Oscar de la Hoya.
The match-up is certain to be an interesting one. While Mayorga has more of a history in boxing and has trained longer, Angulo has a perfect record and has shown himself to be a serious competitor. Mayorga doesn’t hold back – he’s a very all or nothing type of boxer. However, Angulo’s average of a hundred punches in one round means that Mayorga needs to take him very seriously. Which of these two powerful men will come out the winner? Watch the match on Valentine’s Day to find out!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009Shane Mosley defeated Antonio Margarito

Post Match Update: Shane Mosley took away Antonio Margarito’s WBA welterweight title by scoring a technical knockout 43 seconds into the 9th round on Saturday night before the largest crowd ever to witness any event at the Staples Center.
Antonio Margarito vs. Sugar Shane Mosley Live World Welterweight Championship fight – Boxing fans around the world are getting ready for January 24, 2009 (10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT). That’s the day that “Sugar” Shane Mosley will enter the ring with Antonio Margarito, the current holder of the WBA welterweight world title. The two will box at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, and the match will begin at 6 p.m. pacific time. The bout will be the first fight for both boxers in 2009. Margarito recently defeated Miguel Cotto in July of 2008, while Mosley’s last major match was against Ricardo Mayorga in September.
Mosley is going to have his work cut out for him, that’s for sure. In the past, the thirty-seven year old appears to have always known exactly how to avoid his opponents’ attacks and fight back. This has earned him 38 KO’s and a record of 45-5. His professional boxing career began with a thirty-eight fight winning streak, in fact, with thirty-six of those being won by knockout. Mosley grabbed both the WBC welterweight title and the IBF lightweight title during this streak. However, recent matches have shown Mosley to be far from undefeatable. He has won seven out of twelve recent matches, losing twice to Winky Wright and Vernon Forrest and once to Miguel Cotto.
Despite these losses, Mosley has taken down opponents bigger than Margarito before. In fact, in matches against taller and larger fighters, Mosley has come out even with four wins and four defeats. These wins are impressive, however. In 2000, Mosley’s third fight saw him defeat Oscar De La Hoya and in 2003, Mosley defeated De La Hoya a second time.
The six foot tall Vernon Forrest, on the other hand, bested Mosley in 2002 twice. The first saw Forrest King Mosley in only the second round and this was Mosley’s very first loss in his professional career. While he sought revenge within six months, Forrest took him down a second time. Mosley’s third and fourth losses came to Ronald Wright, another larger opponent.
However, when it comes to Margarito, Mosley is going to have to up his game. While Margarito may not have the greatest skills or be the fastest fighter around, his strategy lies in his non-stop attacks. He comes at his opponents from all sides and never lets up. While his career didn’t start out with a long winning streak (he lost three out of twelve fights right off), he does have an overall record of 25-2 with 19 KOs. One of those KOs was against Miguel Cotto – Margarito handed Cotto his very first loss.
Most of Margarito’s defeats have been at the hands of larger opponents like Paul Williams and Daniel Santos. Both were fairly close matches, however, especially the one with Santos. Margarito lost their 2004 meeting by a split technical decision.
Shane Mosley vs Antonio Margarito Odds
Does Mosley have any chance against Margarito? While nothing is sure until the night of the fight, but many boxing experts say no, Mosley simply does not have the speed or the power to defeat the larger man. Mosley’s past fights show that he generally plants himself in one spot and throws his punches rather than duck, weave, and move. But with Margarito, that’s going to mean Mosley is going to take many of his hard punches, and Margarito tends to only get stronger as a fight goes on.
While Mosley has yet to be stopped at lightweight, welterweight, or light middleweight, he’s never come up against anyone who is simply relentless. Margarito, though, has shown that once he gets in the ring, there are very few who can stop him. Once he gets going, he quickly gains steam and puts the pressure on. It’s this unrelenting pressure that gave him victories over Cotto and Kermit Cintron, both of whom rained down many heavy blows on Margarito. Margarito shrugged off these assaults and kept on going, sending both of these larger men to the mats.

Which man will walk away with the WBA welterweight championship? Will Mosley stand up to Margarito’s non-stop onslaught, or will he fall victim to his nonstop pummeling? While many predict that Mosley will fall, nothing is decided until the final bell has rung.

Holyfield vs Valuev Boxing Match Results
Sunday, December 21st, 2008So, there was about 13,000 ticket sell out at the Hallonstadion, Zurich, Switzerland, last night, and the seats packed with boxing fans inside the stadium. While those who were not there at Hallonstadion glued to their TV sets to see what was vouched to be the most enthusiastic year-end boxing bout that happened a couple of hours ago. A before-match survey estimated that the match would be watched by over 1 billion people from over 100 countries.

The fight saw two legendary boxing giants, the Russian Nikolai Valuev and former World Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield. Although, Nikolai Valuev was favored to win, it wasn’t a cakewalk or should I say one-punch bout? The duo exchanged bouts for about 12 rounds in which Valuev narrowly won.
The two boxing legends fought for the WBA title and Nikolai Valuev clinched the defending title with what is a majority win in what we saw a fast-paced fight.
Veteran Evander Holyfield displayed a brave fight while pitching to get crowned for fifth time. In fact the match saw Evander after a hiatus of almost one year after he lost a match to Sultan Ibragimov in a consensus decision during October 2007. The 46-year-old boxer in fact seemed to be quite aggressive at the beginning of the match. The first saw him land a punch to the Russian’s face with a right hand and second round was the best of Evander with 3 punches
He scored 116/112 and 115/114 and the next score card was a draw with 114/114. Middle stages of the match, say from round 6 American boxer seemed obviously tiring and the 7-footer Nikolai took an upper hand. During the 9th round Holyfield fumbled but not knocked down in real sense, but this saw the Russian gain advantage.
In fact, Nikolai was not at all attacking and during the first half he had been more than defensive awkwardly positioning his body. He bettered the American heavy weight after 6th round with constant jabs and ruling him out for the coveted crown and favoring the Russian Valuev to defend the vacant title (August 2008).
End of the bout saw Valuev speak very high of his veteran opponent. He says after the victory, “ He was a strong opponent and made me work very hard for the win. And, It was a challenging and a hard fight and Evander was unbelievably fast with his punches.”
Although, the match saw Nikolai Valuev won the title, Boxing fans across the world are
admittedly unhappy of his poor display of fighting skills. The match would certainly give added confidence to Ukranian Klitschko heavyweights. Their manager, Bernd Boente remarks, “for the sport, this match is a disaster.”
No matter Holyfield lost the match, but it saw him win impressive $US 980,000 and tremendous publicity in his country. The match saw Hallonstadion reverberate with chants of the fans cheering loudly “Holyfield,” as if it were his home place. The four-time champ Holyfield says, “my goal is to be heavyweight champion of the world, I am not interested in fighting for the sake of fighting, I want to be a champion again.”
The winner of last night’s match, Nikolai Valuev will now have to defend this title fighting with the former WBA champion, the Uzbek boxer, Ruslan Chagaev in June 2009. Chagaev earlier this year relinquished his title due to an AT injury.

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008Holyfield vs. Valuev – Can Holyfield Prove He’s Not a Has-Been?

Boxing fans get ready for a major boxing event: Evander Holyfield is going to take another shot at the heavyweight title. On December 20th at the Hallenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland, Holyfield will face World Boxing Association’s Heavyweight Champion Nikolai Valuev in what is sure to be an electrifying match. This fight is scheduled to air live in the US and Canada at 3 PM ET/12 PM PT.
For Holyfield, this will be his second attempt at reclaiming the heavyweight belt in just a little over a year. The 46-year-old boxer lost his last attempt to reclaim the title he held several times in the 1990’s, in October of 2007. He faced off against Sultan Ibragimov in a 12-round match, but his loss by a unanimous points decision. Holyfield showed several weaknesses during his fight with Ibragimov, including a lack of speed and slow reflexes. These same issues have plagued Holyfield for years and were responsible for a number of his defeats. In fact, he was told by the New York State Athletic Commission to leave the sport of boxing because of his diminished abilities in the ring.
Holyfield did take two years off by claiming that he needed to recover from a shoulder injury. He returned to boxing in 2006, and for a bit, it looked like he was back to his old self. He defeated Fres Oquendo, Vinny Maddalone, and Lou Savarese fairly easily, although they were not the most difficult of opponents. When he faced up against Ibragimov, it was clear that Holyfield was fighting a much higher caliber advisory, and Holyfield did not put on a good show. It looked like Holyfield, once one of the biggest names in boxing and the man who made history by defeating Mike Tyson, had lost his edge.
But that was a year ago, and a lot can happen in that amount of time. Now Holyfield faces Valuev, the current heavyweight champion. Valuev had previously held the title, but he lost it to Ruslan Chagaev in April of 2007. Chagaev, however, has been out of the sport for much of the year with injuries and illnesses. After Chagaev pulled out of their match, the 35-year-old Valuev took back the vacant title after defeating John Ruiz on August 30, 2008. According to WBA rules, Valuev will have to face Chagaev in a match for the belt by June 26, 2009. Of course, that’s a match Valuev may never see.

httpv://in.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr5hlhTXbBE
If Holyfield defeated him for the title, he will be the one to go up against Chagaev. But can the older man show that he’s still got the skill and the power to dominate the sport? Valuev has the height—he’s 7 feet tall compared to Holyfield’s six foot two – and he’s 320 pounds; a good hundred pounds heavier than Holyfield. Holyfield, at one time, certainly had a speed advantage, but we haven’t seen that in his most recent matches. Of course, those previous matches don’t really mean anything when all is said and done. In the end, it all comes down to what happens in the ring in Switzerland on December 20.
