Thursday, March 26th, 2009As the brand new season of IPL2 is approaching closer a lot of new troubles are shooting up. Controversies keep on shrouding the grand extravaganza of sports.
For the last couple of months the high level executive meetings are being held. Still the officials are still splitting in their decisions concerning many areas. Even the Pak- player issue also has joined the bandwagon.

According to sources the IPL franchises are still in great favor for roping in Pak talents in this season of IPL.
At least one of the franchises is very much having positive mindset to hire some Pak talents to strengthen their attack force.
Reliable sources confirm that four players of the Pakistan squad have very strong possibilities to feature in this season of IPL.
Those fortunate four could be Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul, Kamran Akmal and Misbah-ul –Haq.
The franchises can do so but they will have to secure permission from the governing body or the organizers of this extravagant show.

Thursday, March 26th, 2009Indian Premier League | Brendan Mcculllum to become KKR Captain – New Zealand batting sensation Brendon Mccullum is expected to be in charge of the kolkata knight riders by replacing the former skipper Sourav Ganguly as the lead man of the army.
Suspense was already building in terms of looking for the most suitable venue for IPL.
The whole new Mccullum issue just far extended the suspense level.

Brendan Mccullum
Controversy and rumors have already started broiling up inside the KKR camp regarding the issue. It has already achieved a serious dimension.
According to reliable sources coach John Buchanan also seems to be in favor of the New Zealand batsman. May be he was not very happy with the performance of the former skipper of Indian team. That’s why he is bit hesitant to rely on him with the charge of captaincy of KKR.
As a matter of fact Mccullum seems to enjoy some crystal clear benefits over his Indian counterpart. First of all he is quite younger than Sourav. Secondly keeping in view the age factor, Mccullum is much fitter as well.
In the previous IPL itself he made a stormy impact with a whopping 158 out of 73 balls against Bangalore Royal Challengers. He is very well known as a dependable player who does not crack in front of mounting pressure. Rather he can excel in crucial moments.

Thursday, March 26th, 2009Indian Premier League | Dada – Indian Cricket Captain to be fired - The Indian premier league is about to move out of the domain of the Indian sub continent. This has given rise to certain amount to controversy. This is not enough. A recent incident which is included in this entire circle is regarding ‘dada’. The former skipper has again found his way into a fresh pool of controversy.

Dada to be fired
There are rumours around that he is being talked about to be axed from the responsibility of shouldering the captaincy of Indian cricket team. There are possibilities that this kind of a drastic step might be taken keeping in view Sourav’s performance in the last season of IPL. It is believed to have given birth to this kind of a dilemma for the former Indian skipper.
In the last season of IPL even it was rumored that there had been established a very cold relationship between Sourav and SRK, that is Shahrukh khan. Whatever speculations and rumors will be in their places but it seems that things are getting tougher for sourav and his chances for the new season of IPL.
So let’s just wait and watch what the drama behind the field is. And what’s in the fate of Sourav.

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009Indian Premier League | IPL Destination still unclear - The grand extravaganza called IPL (Indian premiere league) looks impossible on the Indian soil. The hit flick of last year might find its way abroad and take its refuge there.
Though it’s not finalized yet. The BCCI working committee had a meet on Sunday itself. But even after a time consuming and vivid discussion among the members it was not possible to come to a unanimous decision.

Indian Premier League
Lolit Modi, the commissioner of IPL, himself seemed to be in a state of double mind. Monday, that is on 23rd March, can be a judgment day for this flamboyant show which is a lethal combo of cricket and glamour.
Team selection and many promotional activities are on the full swing. At such a stage the issue regarding the venue is bound to be an eyesore for the executives as well as the owners of the teams.
According to sources IPL is possibly scheduled for either England or South Africa. Depending on the geographic and other facts it looks like that England is having an edge over S.A as a comparatively better destination. IPL format will not undergo any change.
BCCI working committee is pondering over all the aspects. We just have to wait for some time more to know about the most preferred destination of IPL.

Pink Chaddis for Pramod Mutalik on Valentine Day
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009Women Send Pink Underwear to Pramod Mutalik for V-Day. This is Hilarious!!
Bangalore: This Valentine’s Day, in a move that is meant to leave Pramod Mutalik and his ilk
red-faced, a campaign is on to gift them with carton loads of pink chaddis!
A “consortium of pub-going, loose and forward women”, still seething under Pramod Mutalik’s moral policing and hectoring, will collect chaddis from across the country and courier them to the Sri Rama Sene’s Bangalore office by V-Day. This is the revenge of the urban woman, ‘pink undergarment’ her symbol of annoyance.
The ‘Pink Chaddi Campaign’ was kicked off on Febraury 5 to protest the Sene’s warning against celebrating Valentine’s Day and the attacks on women in Mangalore. Though it started off in the e-world among members of a social networking group, it has now taken a life of its own and is out on the streets.
Nisha Susan, writer with a magazine, started this blog with the idea that it could be a forum where people could express their concern and views — particulary the disgust they feel over the recent turn of events.
“On Thursday, I had an impulse we should do something. I planned this campaign and posted it on the blog. The next morning, there were more than 600 posts and now there are over 1,500 posts from all over the world. There are people from all age groups, sixyear-olds to senior citizens and a lot of men too,” said Nisha.
People have signed up to drop chaddis at collection points in their cities, which will be sent to Bangalore. Those who have signed up also plan to go to pubs with their partners or friends on V-Day. Most of the members don’t drink and some haven’t ever visited a pub, but the spirit is to band together against moral policing and curbs on women’s freedom.
“We are concerned that talking about them would give them unnecessary mileage, but at the same time, we can’t keep quiet. If we ignore them, some other group will also start these smart political manoeuvres. They are not fools. They are political manipulators and we should give them what they deserve,” added Nisha.
The group has been aptly named ‘the consortium of pubgoing, loose and forward women’ because that is how Sene wants to project them. “The name was suggested because that is how women are being branded. I hope they get the message this time: that this is how the world views them,” says Nitin M, a communications teacher who is coordinating the campaign.
The campaigners do not specify if the undergarment should be new, but people interested could drop ‘pink chaddis’ at the collection box at Alternative Law Forum, Infantry Road, Bangalore, or contact Nisha at http://www.thepinkchaddicampaign.blogspot.com.

Posted in India No Comments »Sri Ram Sena Valentines Day Threat
Friday, February 6th, 2009And the Valentine Day Threat Debate goes on

When did the self-proclaimed moral custodians of the society get the authority to bend the constitutional dictates? How can they afford to nurse tend barbarism
in times of a civilized world order? These have again surfaced as crux questions in such dark times of atrocious cop-functioning and equally traumatic stand from the consciously gangrened party office holders.
It’s the month of Valentine’s Day Celebration; a time when the cupid-struck get their pleasant license to paint the town red and express their hearts out. It’s the time when they get a fair amount of whiff from the love-filled air and they walk purposefully with a rose in their hands, a smile on their lips and an ardent desire to woo their beloved, filled in their heart.
Wait: there are many reasons that the state constitutional operators and the apparently smudged bureaucrats have given us to believe that this year, once again, Valentine’s Day will be marred by Illegal policing and repression. The seed has already been sowed and unfortunately the wind velocity is also very high. In the wake of the Mangalore pub incident and the tortuous, uncouth handling of a seven year old girl by Etowah police ( Uttar Pradesh), we can only keep giving discerning glances and keep our finger crossed about how the scene might unfold on the valentine’s day.
It’s a difficult situation for a country that has financially liberalized itself yet likes being fettered to its heritage and roots even when some aspects of it want change, writhe for modification. Think what might happen if BJP comes into power in Karnataka? Mangalore pub incidence is a sore wound on the chest of the constitution. It was a brutal murder of democratic rights and the seemingly fake arrest of the Ram Sena Chief Pramod Muthalik has done nothing to make things easy.
In fact the probing commission headed by Nirmala Venkatesh suggested that the incident happened owing to lack of bouncers and the state authorities cleanly shied away from police involvement.
In fact, the situation has come to a sorry pass where the self-rotting custodians have waged a warning suggesting that each couple spotted in a compromising stage will be wedded on the position. What is a state of compromise? In a democratic society, wrestling for equality with the European Union and America, is holding hands or offering rose or planting a cheek on the forehead a compromise or expression of feeling by bending down on the knees a compromise?
We have witnessed the Hooliganism of zealots, we have found that shops have been vandalized, youths have been tonsured and many rose outlets have been tampered with. It is the time to check our hearts. The eternal equation of love is once again coming up. Let’s not add dirty politics and equally rigged bureaucracy to it. Valentine’s Day shall not become a battlefield for political heavyweights where they can take opposite stances and debate about their opinions to gain political mileage. Fundamentalists take the vandalism route because, “Saamna” or some other newspaper from their ranks cannot rage a pen based revolution. It needs to come out in limelight with the sword and the sticks. The fundamentalist organizations will again have their small moment of glory this second weekend of February while the civilized people will look for hushed-up calls and city nooks to express their love.

Posted in India 3 Comments »Sri Ram Sena Pramod Muthalik Mangalore – Pub Culture
Sunday, February 1st, 2009Pub Cuture under caveat after the Mangalore Debacle
Shri Ram Sena Chief Pramod Muthalik has been arrested in the wake of the Mangalore pub incident which threatened to unleash the Hindu fanaticism on reveling masses. Though there have been reports which suggest that Mr. Muthalik has been arrested on different grounds, the roots of which go back in the past when Mr. Muthalik tried to invoke a communal flare-up through some polemic pamphlet distribution.
Reveling weekenders were physically abused by Ram Sena activists in a Mangalore pub incident this week. Muthalik agreed that such a behavior from the right wing members of his party was outright sad but not completely unacceptable. After all, the pub culture isn’t theirs and it needed some such kind of repartee to keep the mothers and daughter safe from the onslaught of western ideology.
The former Bajrang Dal and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief who has no love lost for BJP said that what occurred in Mangalore was freakish yet a small incident perpetrated to uphold the sovereignty of Indian women. He believes like a true hindutva zealot that the Hindu cultural heritage deserves being kept away from the maddening tide of disco, pub and hip-hop culture. In fact, the Shri ram Sena activists also plan to keep the Valentine’s Day couple away from any public show of intimacy and affection.
32 activists are being held till now for physically assaulting boys and girls in the pub. Prasad Attavara is a high echelon person of the Shri Ram Sena’s Karnataka group who is being arrested in connection with the infamous accident perpetrated when the chief was away in Maharashtra. Muthalik has not been detained yet as there is no complaint but he was being held for a different case and handed over from Belgaum to Devanagare.
National Commission for Women, led by Nirmala Venkatesh has already ordered a probe which is committed to finding out the perpetrators of such shady act. Human right wing has jumped up to the occasion and rightly so. All across the country, there are shouts of banning the organization. Rajnath Singh had already suggested that strong action needed to be taken against Ram Sena for this heinous act.
What then looks like the immediate future of pub culture? Yes, it is true that it is not the oriental concept of revelry but globalization has made the entire world a village and smooth transitions of various cultures and its beliefs has marked the change of guard. In a very pleasant way, cultural assimilation has taken place and it has never seemed to defy the personal charm, individual beliefs of a country. Pub culture can never become a moral issue. Yes, a little delinquency and nefarious element do set in but with some regulated mechanism and proper administration in place, revelers can hardly go overboard.
What is perhaps required is personal moral custodianship and the knowledge of boundaries. Its no issue reveling and dancing away the night but then understanding where to draw the line is important. Perhaps both the sides were at fault in the Mangalore incident and the sour incident shall serve as a future precedence.
