It’s My Life Movie Preview

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Harman Baweja has had a pretty good start in the sense that many first film wonders like Gracy Singh and Kim Sharma have been done and dusted. And Amitabh had a very ordinary start to his career.

its my life hindi movie

This time, he has signed with a director who does not know what a flop is about; his last three films have done wonders in the Bollywood sectors and the expectations are again high. It’s My Life may make Harman’s life.

Harman has been praised for his methodical work in Victory and people are gradually getting ready in seeing him as something else than a Hrithik clone. The movie stars Genelia De’sousa with her, fresh from a romantic escapade in Jaane Tu…and Nana Patekar, who will play Harman’s father.

The Sanjay Kapoor Production is to be released this year, but exactly when is anybody’s guess.

The movie is a remake of a Telugu film Bommarillu that was a blockbuster that broke many industry records there. The movie then got remade into a Malayalam movie Santosh Subramaniam that also pocketed huge stores of cash and made the hero Jayam Ravi a very familiar face.

The hero is putting hard labor into the film and should taste honey this time. The complex scenes between Nana and Harman that are the strong points of the film should anyhow, if properly done, put him in the public eye because it is not easy to hold one’s own against the supremely talented Nana who instills a sort of fear factor unassumingly in the fellow artists.

Aa Dekhen Zara Movie Preview

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

The director Jehangir Surti has thought of a magical story and I mean real magic out here. He has brilliantly assembled a movie Aa Dekhen Zara which tells a tale of a failing cameraman who gets a magic wand and suddenly turns into a champion shooter.

aa dekhen zara

The love story of Neil Nitin Mukesh with Bipasha is done on an Hollywoodesque platform. There is a bit of non-linear direction in that aspect and love is carved out of strangeness. It appears to be a fusion of thriller and magic.

The movie is produced by Viki Rajani production and presented by Eros Entertainment.

The film, slated to be released in March 2009, has many shades. And the most essential shade is quite negative. Both the protagonists have that villain engrafted in them and that adds to the beauty of the movie.

Neil has had a wonderful debut in Johny Gaddar, another thriller and so he should not have felt very uncomfortable. However the heroine has changed from the sedate Rimmi to the voluptuous Bipasha Basu. She is not known to do insignificant roles and is supposed to have a balancing act alongside the hero. The magical camera in the movie is an inheritance from his grandfather and there, one can easily see the real life element in that Neil is the grandson of the legendary singer Mukesh.

The film has certain resemblance with the Hollywood movie Freeze Frame. One has to be at his imagining best mood to think of where the camera would lead us in the movie. Into Bipasha’s curves or the world outside.

Aamir Khan – Three Idiots Movie Review

Monday, January 26th, 2009

3 idiots aamir khan new movie

Aamir’s ‘3 Idiots’: Seems Like Intelligent Stuff

Whatever Aamir Khan does, generates a lot of speculative interest and media hype. Same is true for Rajkumar Hirani’s new venture “Three Idiots” that has Aamir assuming the central lead. The title was running around the media circles while during a post-production bash of Ghajini, Aamir referred himself, Shahrukh and Salman as the three idiots of the industry.

3 idiots will be softly based on Chetan Bhagat’s debut bestseller Five Point Someone which narrates the story of an average IIT guy who just about manages to rise above the very mediocre levels. The movie will have Madhavan and Sharman Joshi as the other two idiots.

To be raised through the banner of Vidhu Vinod Chopra productions, the female lead for the movie will be played by the ever so effervescent Kareena Kapoor. To add to the histrionic appeal of the movie, Boman will be playing Kareena’s father (this is tentative)

The first shot has already been shot and it features Madhavan. The scene is beautifully shot in a jetliner and has the director all enthused. Aamir plays Rancho and he along with her love interest Kareena are set to blaze the Ladakh Iceland with a whirlwind 20 day shoot imminently ahead.

As a neat departure form the trend, the shoot will be entirely done in India and has few of the top cosmopolitan junctions like Delhi and Bangalore and a pastoral recess like Ladakh towed in. Shantanu Moitra is the oarsman on the music front and Swanand Kirkire takes the mantle of lyricist for this Aamir venture.

Chandni Chowk to China CC2C Movie Review

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

CC2C the contracted name for Chandni Chowk to China is a story of a person rising from shame to name. Amidst the much hue and cry of the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ CC2C had its release probably only to the disappointment of Akshay Kumar’s fans. If they ever thoughtcc2c that there is no stopping to their hero, well they are mistaken and every hero gets some brakes. This one will be a speed braker to Akki’s stint of successes. From now on, at least, he will take time to retrospect and accept scripts with better storyline.

Akshay Kumar who makes audience the cheer, laugh and cry for him in CC2C has let down the audience if not his fans, by doing a below average script. There is a rumor that the producer got attracted to the title he saw on a moving truck bumper and then he sat with scriptwriter to do what is called CC2C, a disaster to say the least. The film seems to be a potpourri of illogic coincidences and poor repetitive melodrama and antics of 70’s and 80’s.

The storyline of Chandni Chow to China is this: Siddhu (Akki) works as vegetable cutter at a Chandni Chowk Paratha shop who is a daydreamer of ladylove and luxuries. He will be mistaken as re-incarnated Leiu Shung who is the Chinese Hero to have protected China on the Great Wall of China. He will be taken to the Chinese village (an astrologer tells the villagers that they will be salvaged from the terrors of the gang lord Hojo by the re-incarnated legend warrior).

Siddhu, inherently a lethargic bloke, is always reminded of his latent smarts by his dada (played by Mithunda). Two of the Chinese villagers along with the chump astrologer finds re-incarnated Chinese legendary hero working at the Paratha shop at Chandni Chowk and they’ll take him to China. The dumbass translation that runs between Siddhu and fraud astrologer fits into the comedy track of the movie (if I can say there is one at all in the movie).

Siddhu meets Sakhi (dove-eyed Deepika Padukone) who plays a model and falls in love instantly for her. No sooner he realizes that she is not a model but a thief. Its only because he doesn’t know that the thief is Meow Meow (a twin sister of Deepika who was lost when she was young). The happenings at the Chinese village after Siddhu goes there and how he stops the tyrannies of Hojo are stopped by Akki forms the rest of the movie.

CC2C has biggest asset in Akki who’s shown so much maturity on his acting side, of late. And no wonder the film’s grand openings are for him. Akki’s Chinese stunts also keep one and all on the edge of their seats. But the chemistry between Akki and Deepika is not something that you will appreciate in the movie. Indian directors give heroines something substantial, and its high time we learn from other movies. Songs and music are great to listen, feels still better to watch them picturised amidst rich locations and settings. Wonder if the producer will get his money back after spending so much on songs alone.

Transforming from the Khiladi-style movies to Heera Phera to Singh is King, Akshay Kumar no doubt has graduated to real impressive acting talents, but in the film you will only see that Akki repeating heroics of Amitabh. Hopefully, Chandni Chowk to China will send signals to Bollywood scriptwriters to stop scripting nonsense and mindless comedies. Enough is enough I would say.

However, if you are in a mood for illogic nonsense, great music and songs Chandni Chowk to China is where you should head to, lest catch up with something worthwhile at Chandni Chowk the weekend.

Ghajini Review – Aamir Khan Hindi Movie

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

ghajini movie review

I had the opportunity to watch the premiere show of Ghajini and let me start by telling you that this movie is nothing like the movie “Memento”. Unlike other Aamir Khan movies, Ghajini is a complete “masala” movie with action, romance, humor and suspense. What makes it outstanding is the perfection behind each and every aspect of the movie.

aamir asin ghajiniIn Ghajini, Aamir Khan plays the role of “Sanjay Sinhania”, a person suffering from short term memory which makes him incapable of remembering things beyond 15 minutes. The only memory he has of his past is a hazy recollection of his girl friend, Kalpana (played by Asin Thottumkal) being murdered and the name Ghajini, which she whispers in his ears just before dying. Using notes and tattoos Sanjay sets out to hunt for the murderer and take his revenge.

Ghajini unfolds at an unbelievable pace. The first half of the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat, gripping and thrilling. The romance between Sanjay and Kalpana is tender and endearing and the way it is narrated is brilliant. It makes you fidgety by not telling you the whole story at a stretch and keeps you asking for more. The attention to detail is amazing; there is even an explanation of how Sanjay gets his 8 packs. The movie also has its lighter moments. Kalpana’s story of how she and Sanjay Sinhania meet at the Delhi airport and how he proposes her is definitely laughable. I also enjoyed the “Kite” detergent ad, the Ambassador resolutions and the fake Sanjay Sinhania immensely.

The second half of the movie gets darker and more thrilling with even more action. The acting which is superb throughout the movie touches a different level of brilliance. Aamir Khan transforms himself into a roaring beast, driven by his insane fury. While the death of Kalpana will bring tears to your eyes, the last fight sequence will leave you trembling in excitement. Asin Thottumkal plays the perfect partner for Aamir Khan, with some great acting and never trying to steal the focus from Aamir. If anything, Ghajini falters in its music. Of course the background scores are awesome but except “Guzarish”, the songs do not have the AR Rehman magic. Nevertheless, in a year with a serious dearth of good movies Ghajini will make up for all of that.

Ghajini movie is a must watch for an Aamir Khan Fan. I can guarantee you that this movie is going to be one of the Biggest Block Buster Hits and will set new Records.

Usually I do not rate Aamir Khan movies on a scale of 5 or 10. All I can say is that Ghajini is definitely a “Aamir Khan’ movie! However, just for official record:

My Rating: 4.5 / 5

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi Movie Review

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi Review

Rab ne bana di jodi was one of the most awaited movies in 2008. In fact all the movies being released in the last few months have been the most awaited movies !! Yuvvraj,Rab Ne and Ghajini. While the first one disappointed us, Rab ne is just a passe, somewhere between not bad and good. All thanks to Shahrukh, the movie at least deserves a mention in our esteemed website :) .

We’ve tasted this old wine and have seen all the new bottles as well. SO nothing much new about it. But having said that, Badshah Shahrukh Khan yet again proves that he can turn head even with a ‘Nothing At all’ Script. But sorry Mr.Khan this is definitely not another Filmfare performance. He is good but nothing great.

rab ne bana di jodiPunjabi munda Surinder Sahni is a content and a happy man with small dreams. He’s very honest, he is very hard working, He wears Spectacles, has a mustache and in no way any girls right man. But destiny has it differently and Surinder gets married to this completely opposite girl, Taani (Anushka Sharma), who likes to live her life her own way.

Married, but not happily married. Surinder and Taani go through a lot of problems in their married life, because of the huge age difference between them. No romance, no passion no chemistry between them. But then, there happens to be a reality dance show “Rab ne bana di Jodi”. Taani wants to take part in this show, but she is afraid that her old and not-hip husband won’t be able to dance which will make her loose the competition and she will become a laughing stock among her friends.

The movie then revolves around the plot of how Suri transforms himself into a very hep rab ne bana di jodi flirtatious dude Raj to win back his lady love using dancing as his  weapon. Bobby (Vinay Pathak) is the doctor without a degree who transforms Surinder in such a wonderful way that Taani could never make out. [NO no, shes not a Blondie. She just cant, God knows why !!].Okay, so Taani who is unaware of Raj being Suri himself ends up falling in love with Raj.

As the show rolls on, the duo discover some nice chemistry and love between them. Things between Surinder and Taani start to improve and they share a much more close relationship than ever before.

Shahrukh is good, though his character is a bore he never lets you be so. And that’s why he is a Badshah, is it not?. And there’s the mismatch, Anushka. She is definitely not a top class heroine material. She acts decently and a very good stuff for being some heroes sister. A little more of home work and a lot of face work could do some help.[Wonder how she bagged a Yash Raj flick which is to hit floors soon]

Direction is okay, given the bad script. The thing that Aditya Chopra does best is to keep the focus firmly on the relationship between the two title characters, never wandering off on unwelcome tangents.

Lets skip the music section, as its definitely not in favor of the movie. Let apart the overly publicized ‘haulle haulle‘, there’s not much about it. And the over rated ‘Chance pe Dance‘.

This movie has really shown a never-before seen outlook of SRK who is pairing with debuting Anushka Sharma in this beautiful romantic movie. A mawkish, amateurish script about a deathless reincarnation, is unlikely to win many hearts is what I personally felt before the movie. But ended up watching and had enough of the movie. Not a must watch for a movie fan but worth a watch if you do not have anything more interesting to do for the weekend.

2.4 out of 5.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: SRK reinventing himself?

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

The Badshah of Bollywood is at it again – and this time in a whole new avatar! Right from the angry protagonist in Baazigar who is out for revenge, to the college going, romantic dude Rahul in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, to the cruel and sadistic Don in Don, SRK has truly experimented with his look, acting and persona. Even in the film Devdas, SRK showed an overly emotional side, drenched in alcoholism, as his lady love stood helplessly watching. This time, SRK is all set to present yet another new side of his persona – in the upcoming movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Produced under the Yash Raj banner, the film has been going great guns in terms of publicity and promos. The songs have already started becoming a rage with the people and it remains to be seen if this new and modest avatar of SRK will be appreciated by the masses.

The plot: don’t read if you plan to see the movie!

Well, we warned you but as they say curiosity killed the cat so here goes. SRK is supposedly a very mundane guy who lives an extremely ordinary and boring life, working in the electricity board. His wife is played by Anushka Sharma, who is much younger than him and wants a little more excitement and unpredictability in their life. That is when a contest known as ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ comes into the picture. This is a dance contest and SRK realizes this maybe his chance to help his wife’s wishes come true. So, stepping out of his regular trousers and sloppy shirt, in comes a whole new swanky SRK replete with jeans, fitted t-shirts and gelled, slick hair. His wife too undergoes a massive transformation as a hip social girl of the city life. What follows could probably be a fun-to-watch contest between the two and other contestants. It is also highly probable that the pair wins the contest at the end but even if they lose the wife surely realizes her husband is capable of much more than just the routine life he lives. In all, the story is about a couple realizing their multidimensional personalities and reclaiming their lost love.

Reality shows: making an impact in reel life too

It is no small surprise that reality shows are the order of the day, so much so, that every TV channel these days has a song or dance contest or even a show like Big Boss being lapped up by audiences. Watching celebrities battle it out, reveal their weaknesses and live their lives like ordinary people do, is no small feat and has loads of scope for entertainment, drama, action and even romance. The rather emotionally touching romantic saga of Monica Bedi and Rahul Mahajan was watched with bated breath by all people. Coming back to the topic, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is a rip-off the Nach Baliye contest theme. The storyline is very similar to the plot of Vinay Pathak and his wife in the movie Aaja Nachle. There too, the wife realizes her husband’s multidimensional personality when he performs in the dance drama choreographed by Madhuri Dixit. However, even though the storyline is familiar, fans are hoping it is not the only plot in the movie. Of course there will be plenty of consolation in the spectacular sets, songs and costumes as typical of all Yash Raj movies. However, all of the Yash Raj films have been about love stories and the banner has been synonymous with only this theme. Maybe, it is time the production house started experimenting with other genres of movies like maybe – action?!

Saccharine sweet romance and a trendy SRK

For all the hype that Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has to offer, it seems the plot and love story theme has been done to death, especially by the Yash Raj banner. Yes, the heroines look gorgeous, the sets are spectacular, songs are amazing and the heroes always chivalrous and charming but – isn’t our audience smarter than that? Aren’t we a little fed up of the super sweet romance always showcased in our hindi movies? How about a little reality and maybe a touch of darker romance like in ‘Woh Lamhe’ or ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’.

SRK playing it safe – again?

Yes, SRK has no doubt proved that he can act in multidimensional roles. Whether it is as the scientist who feels a rush of desi patriotism when he comes back to Motherland India, or the embittered crippled husband who seeks love in another woman’s arms in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna or the lover boy who believes honesty in love can win any situation in DDLJ SRK sure has come a long way and today stands tall as the undisputed Baadshah of Bollywood. Yet, we fans expect more of him. We would love to see him play a character with shades of grey (think Big B in Aks). We would love to see our SRK try to experiment with other forms of cinema instead of only acting in big budget, mega Bollywood productions. Going by the rushes of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi it seems SRK maybe playing a new character but would be with the same trappings of a regular love story.

Eight by Ten Movie Preview (Tasveer)

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Eight by ten (earlier named Tasveer) is expected to be Akshay’s another triumph. It is a movie from the thriller genre and should attest him as a champion of this kind of film as well. He has already done well in such kind of movies and he has showed his mettle in Sangharsh and Bhool Bhulaiyya earlier.

Produced by Percept Picture Company and directed by Nagesh Kukhnoor, the movie has Ayesha Talkia in the lead opposite Akshay Kumar. Supporting roles will be played by Vinod Khanna, Javed Jaffrey, Anant Mahadevan, and the quintessentially beautiful Sharmila Tagore.

A large duration of shooting has been done in Calgary, Canada. The movie was earlier called Tasveer. Nagesh changed its name citing that the earlier name was jinxed. The movie seems to be inspired by Sixth Sense, a tremendous thriller by Night Shyamalan.

Akshay is playing a man with high-degree of mental powers. Reportedly the character cannot be hurt. This again is a take of Shyamalan’s Bruce Willis in Unbreakable. The climax scene is shot under water. Akshaye is tied to chains in the underwater sequence. In one of the path-breaking bollywood stunts, Akshaye jumps into water from height of 160 feet.

The year is touted as a big one for Ayesha too. Her movie “Wanted dead or alive” is slated to be released; this one is opposite Salman Khan. For the uninitiated, Ayesha would be playing Akshay’s wife.

Recently while shooting for Blue, Akshaye was badly injured during an underwater scene; he was to work opposite a group of diabolical sharks. This injury might shelve the floor plans of Eight by Ten a little.

New York Hindi Movie Preview – John Katrina

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

All those of us who want an apparently free ride on a svelte, sizzling camaraderie can have the time of their lives. Katrina Kaif is matching swords with John Abraham to produce what looks like being one of the real blockbusters of coming times.

The movie would be produced by Yash Raj films. Now few years ago this would have been a success mantra in itself but these are tough times for Yash Raj flicks and they are going through a series of misses, may be interspersed with an odd hit.

Direction mantle will be taken by Kabir Khan, the guy who is attributed to the semi-success of Kabul express. (In fact it did reasonably well in certain territories) the film also has the self- assured but unassuming Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Yash Raj films have been known to keep their venture in complete wraps till the post production stages. Keeping in line with the trend, they have not revealed much. The movie is expected to hit theaters in early 2009.

Monica Bhattacharjee, spokeswomen for YRF has not confirmed even the title, suggesting it is a tentative one.

John Abraham has already become a brand in this country with the latest line of accessories that he has flashed under his name. After Anurag Kashyap’s No Smoking and Kukhnoor’s Aashaayein, he has taken up New York which again like Khan’s Kabul Express is based on terrorism and its various ramifications.

Here is wishing that it gives some scopes of acting to the very charming Miss kaif.
