Sunday, March 8th, 2009John Abraham and Katrina Kaif may be in love with the shooting of Yashraj’s New York, but without a doubt a corner of their heart is already married to the upcoming project they might be a part of. If grapevine is to be believed, then the pair has been short listed by Hollywood ace director Rob Cohen (Mummy, FastAnd Furious) for his proposed venture Jewel of India.
The director hasn’t substantiated anything but going by the tentative looks of it, the screen couple shall get the flag to sizzle one and all. There are mightier names in the film. Rumor mills suggest that Amitabh Bacchhan might have a big cake in terms of the role and Cohen might also rope in Hollywood bigwigs like Al Pacino, Robert De Niro. At this point we are also anticipating with bated breath, two glam dolls, Monica Bellucci and Eva Mendes. Their names are also doing the rounds.
Rob Cohen has visualized a treasure hunt movie running through the landscape of India and is all geared up to take the Indiana Jones cult far.
The movie will be produced by producer Firoz Nadiadwalla and a budget of 275 crore is being talked about. If this is close to being true, then the movie will certainly be worth seeing for its special effects. Katrina has always had a quality relationship with Feroz and she seems to have cashed on that. Even otherwise, her box office performance in the last couple of years has been breathtaking.
London Dreams Movie Preview
Saturday, March 7th, 2009London Dreams, as the name suggests, is about London dreams where two childhood friends dream big and ultimately turn it into reality, although separately as rock musicians. The film canvasses the life of a rockstar and what turmoils he or she has to go through.
Asin Thottumkal, after the sensational Bollywood in the top grosser of all time – Ghajini, is the main female lead and with two heroes, it may be a love triangle seen after quite some time. There was a time when Bollywood feasted on love triangles.
Om Puri, who has very transparently settled into a new niche of character roles, is slated to do a very important character yet again, and so are social activists Brinda Parekh and MTV Roadies Veejay Rannvijay Singh.
Vipul Shah, who has a penchant for getting big stars, his last film being an Amitabh, Akshay, Priyanka starrer Waqt, has roped in the stars yet again in Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. Salman, who has two near releases in London dreams and Veer has been reported to have a soft corner for the former, and that speaks well for the movie. He has even been a mediating part of the movie when he resolved the movie from being shelved. The movie releases in either March or August.
There are also clever words being spoken about special guest appearances by Hollywood and Bollywood biggies, even though any word in that direction may be in bad taste.

Love Aaj Kal Movie Preview
Thursday, February 26th, 2009Imtiaj Ali, who has made two soft and flowing love stories, is making yet another. The film is been done pretty fast and the exciting element is that the hiccups are more for the title tan the entire movie.
The film has been conceived with two initial titles Aaj Aur Kal and production No. 1. However the latest was recommended by Shahid Kapoor, the hero in Jab We Met who tried to reflect the mix of English and Hindi with the supposed name Love Aaj Kal.
The film has come up with a new pair yet again with Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone making a love story of their own. There was consternation when the scheme appeared of not retaining any of the stars in the match winning Jab We Met, but Imtiaj seems to know his job quite efficiently.
The film is nearing completion and supposed to continue where the other Ali films ended, taking slight angles on the relationships. The film is being slated for June release and there is only one song left before the logistics and post production blues come into effect.
Both the stars are in similar position as Kareena and Shahid were before Jab We Met with a series of flops before. The director’s easy business with the camera might do the trick this time.
The music has been the métier of his past movies and this time too, Pritam has been given avid directions to throw in soulful renditions.

Life Partner Movie Preview
Thursday, February 26th, 2009Abbas Mastan, who still ride the laurels of the two classic thrillers Khiladi and Baazigar, that brought two future superstars into initial limelight – Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan, have now resolved to produce Life Partner. Directed by Rumi Jaffrey, the movie promises to be a roller coaster ride.
The movie, that will be on air on 1st May has a male cast that have been doing little else than comedy of late. Govinda is an irrepressible veteran in the field with very few peers to his comic timing; Tusshar Kapoor has done good comedy in Golmaal series and Fardeen in Hey Baby. However, one thing is to be noticed that the first one is clearly past his prime and the last two star kids have assured that they will not show any great promise in the future.
The heroines, though, that have been chosen are both bright and on their way to celestial heights. Prachi Desai who jumped straight from TV into celluloid to rock us, Kasamh Se and Genelia De’sousa an inalienable part of the highly original Jaane Tu…The heroines kind of keep the equilibrium with the heroes.
The producers are pretty experienced and have always been original in their making even as directors. Rumi, the director, is a very renowned writer in the Bollywood circles and they along with Govinda pack a punch of experience.
One thing is a guarantee that whatever be the outcome on the cash front, the movie will be full of comic capers and side jokes.
Lamhaa Movie Preview
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009Lamhaa means a moment but in direct contradiction to the name, the movie has taken desperately long time and it is only because of the relentless efforts of the Rahul Dholakia (of Parzania fame) that has finally culminated in the completion of the movie.
The film is being presented by G S entertainment and stars Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Kunaal Kapoor and Shernaz Patel. Lamhaa has been infested by many roadblocks, the prominent ones being the objection by a frontline leader of Jammu and Kashmir Asiya, who has been pretty vocal that Bipasha’s character is a take on her life. The manual problems were somehow solved by the director and the shooting set to resume only for the landslides to start. The movie has been extensively shot in J & K and Shimla and Sanjay was quite nostalgic as he did his early schooling in Shimla only. The security had been pretty beefed up and the stars took turns in coming here and completing their legs of the shooting. If anything, it speaks great potential about the directorial qualities of Rahul.
The film takes a closer look at the terrorism and the surly effects it has on general life. The dark side of the beautiful valleys has been portrayed pretty beautifully as reported by the in house team. All in all, time has captured the moment and the movie should be an experience. It is produced by Bunty Walia. Here is praying for the truth to emerge in the valleys through the film and that the movie releases in time.
Koochie Koochie Hota Hai Movie Preview
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009Karan Johar has come of age. The resounding success of his first movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has just completed 10 successful years and Yash Johar’s son is not complaining. The romantic twists that were the fine points in the love story have been great inspiration for Karan and so in 2009, he has tried to give it a different color. This time, the protagonists would be the dogs and bitches, and the movie would be animation, so much for the change. The name is an inspiration from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai but the rest is same.
Dharma Production, Karan’s in house production has been working overhand in promoting the movie. Co-produced by Parana Studios and directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Karan Johar has been very involved in the movie that would have fellow animals like pigs, bear and buffalos as side actors. Precise to say that the movie is an animated remake of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with the trio of Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani playing up their voices for their screen faces in the shape of canines. The project has been a bit deferred because of Karan’s other project My Name Is Khan starring both Shah Rukh and Kajol, and the final touches are yet to be given.
Tarun, the director has shown a penchant for raw love triangles and has moved from gays and a gal to the animal kingdom. Dostana though has been deemed a cult movie in many senses as it was commercially bold, but don’t think he would be able to take many experiments.
Haddipa Movie Preview
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009After average fare of Raqeeb, the low profile director Anurag Singh has come up with a new idea called Haddipa. The movie is being made under Yash Raj banner and produced by Aditya Chopra.
The movie shows in its limited views a pretty staid and plain looking Rani Mukherjee, who returns after a brief sabbatical into the world she calls and has made her own. The hero is Shahid Kapoor, who is doing a hat full of movies, may be to town down the disconnection actor of Kismet Konnection.
Anupam Kher, who lends credence to any movie that he does with his versatility, is also there. And if the people with working saliva are not turned on by the plain Jane look of Rani, There are two flames to ignite passion in their minds. Rakhi Sawant and Sherilyn Chopra can only give one thing to each other – competition in being allergic to fabrics.
There is as much knowledge about the movie as there is about the director who has been totally off the limelight in the last two years after Raqeeb. It is pretty surprising how Aditya Chopra has finalized on his name and arranged a decent star cast for him to do some good work.
he late reports have not been very encouraging and the rumors are afloat that the movie has been shelved sine die.
The leading pair, who are working with each other for the first time, would surely be wishing their hearts out that the movie gets released. Everything is, as of now, been kept hush-hush.
De Dana Dan Movie Preview
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009Priyadarshan is at it again. He has called in his devoted actors like Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty to provide a delectable fare. Neha Dhupia and Sameera Reddy are there to be eye candies. But the director is actually counting on the highly potent combination of the sizzling duo in Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Their success together has been very enviable.
The film De Dana Dan, is made almost like Hera Pheri with the triumphant trio retained and the general notion is that any film even closer to Hera Pheri is going to hilarious. Ratan Jain of Venus tapes is producing the film and the movie is scheduled to start in January and get released in November.
The movie cast has gone through radical changes on the ladies front (the male cast is pretty obviously untouched) and Asin was the first choice as a main lead after Ghajini. But the southern star is getting readily known for her tantrums and so Priyadarshan rightly shifted to Katrina. Sameer Reddy too, who has not been very identified with comedy, reportedly impressed Priyan with her acting in Race and got a place in the script.
One remembers an analogy when a pretty serious actress Tabu was kept in the belly throwing comedy Hera Pheri. The prolific director has just finished a movie with the child prodigy Darsheel Safary and has only started working on the movie now.
However, with the Akki-Kat chemistry and the versatile director, Paresh and Sunil for comic service, one expects a helluva lot of laughter.
Hook Ya Crook Movie Preview
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009The ace director of comedy, David Dhawan, who was in the habit of creating repeated history along with Govinda in the nineties has come back to enthrall us yet again. The actor has changed to the younger and bodily more gracious John Abraham.
Amrita Rao would be the leading light for the fairer sex and the star has given us startling performances in the previous movies which elicit some hopes from our sides.
The award winning Rensil D’Silva has written the script in a very compact and taut manner and there are scents of the Rang De Basanti factor if the inner team is to be believed. The characterization, which was done on concrete in the 2006 classic, should be crispy and epical this time too in the magical hand of D’Silva.Th e picture is a combination of several genres mixing sports with romance and thriller and though this might be familiar territory for Rensil, David may find the road a bit uphill.
Siddharth, who was the actual lead role in Rang De Basanti, is set to dawn the same in this film too. The powerful performance may have conjured Rensil’s mind. Music is by Pritam.
UTV Motion Pictures, now a brand of trust and substance, is presenting the movie and the film is already on the roll. It should be open for us to see this year and the suspense is too much to bear.
John has grown hugely from a no show in Garam Masala to an equal entertainer in Dostana. Let’s hope for the best.
Kaminay Movie Preview

After two genuinely witty and terse take on the Shakespeare plays McBeth and Hamlet, the multi talented Vishal Bharadwaj has taken a step into commercial action finally. Kaminay, an action packed thriller, that is scheduled to release this year on 27th March, has been shrewdly kept under wraps and not much is known except the common assumption that the hero and heroine would be shady characters or the eponymous Kaminay. The two have jumped into new territories with the flick and with the mystic director at the helm, should come up with flying colors.
Priyanka Chopra has surprisingly taken bold roles both in terms of the context of stories and content of clothes of late, as she was being comfortably wrapped in her in-between movies. This movie takes this trait of hers to the zenith with a few mind boggling smooches and great intimate scenes. Reportedly, the scenes have been shot aesthetically, but frankly, with horde of adult movies coming, nobody is going to complain. Shahid Kapoor has worked on his body and is following the footsteps of the Khans and Sunny with a macho look and to add to the effect also grown facial hair.
Going by the look of it, the movie should have much sizzle and action both. The script and music go to Vishal’s credit apart from direction and so there is every chance of brilliance on those ends. But as Vishal has been adapting screenplays in the previous ventures, we keep our fingers crossed for this one to be an original. Amol Gupte is in a vital role.
