When it comes to satellite TV companies, there are three major players in India right now namely Dish TV, Tata Sky and the new entrant Big TV. Here is a comparison of their features and functionality.
Channel availability
In terms of the number of channels available, Big TV and Dish TV seem to be doing better than Tata Sky. In comparison between Tata Sky and Big TV, Tata Sky failed to provide 31 channels such as Kairali, Firangi, Sahara National, Bindass Movies, Zee Premier, Music India and many others, just to name a few channels. In terms of regional channels, Big TV scores top points while Dish TV lags behind a close second.
Active services
Tata Sky has the largest number of Active Services compared to the other two companies Big TV and Dish TV. However, according to users, the Active Services are not worth all that investment and instead the company should focus on increasing regional channels at the same cost.
Classification of packages
One significant advantage that Dish TV has over the other two companies is that they have not started classifying packages like the other companies have. Tata Sky has been famous for classifying its various packages, which can be cumbersome to users at times when they want specific channels.
Signal quality
Tata Sky has the best signal quality, when compared with the other two companies. The STB interface provided by Tata Sky is also comparatively better than both Dish TV as well as Big TV.
Cost effectiveness
Dish TV seems to be having some of the best packages and cost effective rates currently. They have an annual subscription package costing just 3990, for which a user can get STB free of cost. They also seem to have included more music channels as well as movies in their packages. Special mention needs to be made about the Maxi package, which has many movie and music channels included. Hence, they are enjoying a good popularity with users. Overall, Dish TV offers good money’s worth compared to both Tata Sky and Big TV. One aspect that needs mention here is that Tata Sky has recently removed the cricket channels and made it an optional package. Hence, people who do not like cricket or sports based channels can now opt out of it.
Referral schemes
Tata Sky has a referral scheme going on currently, where a person who refers someone will get two months’ viewing of the channels free of cost while the person referred will get a month’s view of channels free.
Website usability
In terms of user-friendliness of websites, Tata Sky tops the list. Big TV has an interactive site but does not offer much information for the user to use. Dish TV has a comprehensive site but navigation is extremely difficult and categorization is not good. The payment section of the Dish TV website is very amateurish in design when compared to the others Big TV and Tata Sky.
Technology
In terms of technology, Big TV seems to fare better than the other companies do. It has MPEG4 technology, which means the video quality will be excellent.

The starting price of the internet packages is around 900 INR each month and you get access to multiple user facility as well. Maximum download speeds can even be 4 Mbps. There is an initial installation fee involved of 1000 INR and you get 50 MB of storage space free of cost along with 2 email IDs of Ricmail.com.

MTNL Broadband Connection
The MTNL or Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited offers high download speeds. These speeds vary between 256 Kbps to around 2 Mbps. You can avail both internet access and landline usage using this DSL connection facility. Even during power outages the telephone line continues to function, which is an added advantage. The tariffs are very low and start from just 199 INR each month.

Airtel Broadband Connection
You can avail both postpaid as well as prepaid broadband schemes with Airtel. You get a landline from the company and can avail a host of various packages as per convenience and requirements. The initial costs of packages start from 444 INR each month and extend to around 1000 or more, depending on download limits, speed requirements etc. Speeds for the 444 INR tariff package are at 256 Kbps and include a limited browsing option of 25 hours in a month. However, the more flexible option of unlimited downloads are available at a monthly rental of 1000 INR. The speeds are excellent and service quality is also extremely good.

Bangalore, as a city, has come a long way from the time when Kempe Gowda built it in the sixteenth century and named it ‘bendakaaluru’, to the times when our local government wants to change its name from Bangalore to Bengaluru. It has seen the British invasion and also survived to see the IT revolution by building a strong economic platform which heavily depends on its name – The Brand ‘Bangalore’.
For anyone who knows about this famous city, hearing it’s name brings to mind the beautiful weather, the numerous defence establishments it has, the famous gardens (Lal Bagh and Cubbon park), the culture and warmth of its residents and the more recent IT industry.
With everything a city needed to grow, God knows how the idea of changing its name came about in the first place.
I know it definitely has nothing to do with the new trend in India of renaming its cities to remove the anglicized names. The cities that were renamed from Bombay to Mumbai, Madras to Chennai and Calcutta to Kolkata had lost their original names and the new names were the result of colonization. Even though the word Bangalore was coined during the colonial times it was always known as Bengaluru in Kannada, which means even though the entire world knew it as Bangalore it never lost it’s original name of Bengaluru which is it’s official name in Kannada.
In this way, it had joined ranks with few cities who had an English name and a different native name such as Turin(Torino in Italian), Florence(Florentia in Italian) , Venice (Venezia in Italian) and Paris (pronounced as Pari in french).
It looks like this is purely a political motive rather than something which is good and widely accepted as our beloved home – Bangalore.

TNA Bound for Glory Results

TNA Bound for Glory 2008 is scheduled to start on 12th October, 2008 – 8 PM ET/ 5 PM PT. It is going to take place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. For the First time TNA’s PPV is referred to by Roman Numerals instead of by year. Bound for Glory IV is TNA’s biggest Pay-Per-View event of the year live from Chicago much in the same league as WrestleMania (for WWE), Starrcade (FOR WCW) and November to Remember (for ECW). There will be a fan interaction event the day prior to the PPV, where the fans will get to meet the SuperStars of TNA, get their autograph and have a photo taken alongside the SuperStars of TNA.

Kites – Hrithik Roshans New Movie

Hrithik Roshan’s next venture KITES is due to be released by June 2009. This forthcoming movie Kites is produced by Rakesh Roshan (known for directing films with the title beginning with a “K”) and directed by Anurag Basu. Anurag Basu is known best for some of his recent appreciated Directorial work for films such as Murder, Gangster and Life In A Metro.
The movie features Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Kangana Ranaut And Luce Rains. Barbara Mori(top Latin actress) is the leading lady of the film. The movie is supposed to be an intense Triangular Love Story wherein Kangana Ranaut is Hrithik’s Wife and Barbara Mori is his Mistress. Hrithik plays a role of a Street Smart Scamster who resides in Vegas.

The shooting of Kites began on 28th July and is set to be shot in New Mexico, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and finally Mumbai. The Shooting was recently disrupted in Mexico due to the onset of Hurricane lke and hence added on to the costs of the movie and disturbing the shooting schedules.

Google Insights for Search is a tool Introduced by Google to determine Search trends for Keywords and Phrases in unprecedented ways. The best part of all, Its FREE. It is similar to, but a much more advanced extension to Google Trends with more flexibility and functionality.

The Search data is updated at least once a day from all Google Domains Worldwide to determine how many searches are done for various pertinent search terms based on

Super Eric gets in and lifts both Lance Rock and Jimmy Rave on top of his shoulders for the Double Death Valley Driver! Curry Man then rolls in the ring and pins Christy Hemme for the 1-2-3.
- Falls Count Anywhere Match: Awesome Kong (with Raisha Saeed) defeated O.D.B.
O.D.B takes a chug from her flask and spits it in Awesome Kong’s eyes. She goes for a Thesz Press but Kong catches her and slams her through the table in the corner with a spinebuster! Kong pins for the 1-2-3.
- Tag Team Match: Abyss and Matt Morgan defeated Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon)
Abyss picks up the steel chair and debates whether to use it or not. He hesitates too long and Brother Ray nails him from behind. Devon goes for the chair shot on Abyss but Morgan spins him around and punches the chair into his face. Abyss grabs him and hits the Black Hole Slam for the 3-count.
- 3-Way Dance for the TNA X Division Championship: Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Petey Williams and Consequences Creed
Creed tosses sheik out of the ring but Petey spins him around and goes for the Canadian Destroyer! Creed counters it but only gets a 2-count. Creed whips Petey into the corner and Petey charges him, Creed goes for the back body drop but Petey grabs him and hits the Canadian Destroyer out of nowhere! He pins, 1..2.. Sheik pulls him out and slams him into the guard rail. Sheik slides in the ring and steals the pin on Creed who is still knocked out from the Canadian Destroyer for the 1-2-3.
- Three Ways to Glory match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship: Samoa Joe defeated Kurt Angle and Christian Cage to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
Kurt hits Joe with a chair again and this brings out Jeff Jarrett who nails Kurt with a guitar. Kurt falls back into the corner and Joe hits him with the Muscle Buster for the 1-2-3. Jeff Jarrett hands the title belt to Joe as Kurt is laid out in the middle of the ring with blood coming out of his forehead.
- TNA Women’s Knockout Championship: Taylor Wilde defeated Angelina Love to retain the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship.
Angelina goes for the Rock Bottom but Taylor spins around for the quick rollup. Kip runs in for the save and manages to break the count but Rhino hits the GORE and Kip goes flying out of the ring. Velvet holds Taylor back so Angelina can hit her, but Taylor ducks and dropkicks Angelina into Velvet, knocking her off the apron. Angelina turns around only to be met by a fisherman’s suplex from Taylor for the 1-2-3.
- Ladder of Love Match: Sonjay Dutt defeated Jay Lethal
Lethal tries to get down but his leg is caught in the ladder, So Cal Val gets in to help Lethal out of it and Sonjay flips. Sonjay starts climbing the ladder while Lethal checks on Val. Lethal gets up and starts climbing the ladder as well, but Val runs up behind him and hits a low-blow, allowing Sonjay to get the ring and win the match. Val and Sonjay start making out right infront of the camera to celebrate.
- TNA World Tag Team Championship: Beer Money, Inc. (Robert Roode and James Storm) defeated The Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Hernandez) to retain the TNA World Tag Team Championship
Roode and Storm are beating down Homicide on the outside but Hernandez comes flying over the top rope for the suicide dive to the outside. Homicide brings Roode back in the ring for the Gringo Killer but Jackie throws salt in his eyes and Roode hits the Rude Awakening for the 1-2-3
- Mixed Martial Arts match: A.J. Styles vs Frank Trigg (NO WINNER)
The match is ruled a no contest after AJ accidentally hits Trigg in the groin. AJ flips out and grabs a kendo stick from under the ring and beats the crap out of Trigg.

Snakes of India – King Cobra

Everyone knows this is the king of snakes, but why?
Is it because, this is the longest venomous snake on this planet which can grow to a length of 18-19 feet or is it because of the deadly neurotoxic venom, a single drop of which can kill a human.
No. But the name king in the world of snakes can only mean one thing “SNAKE EATER”. Yes, the primary diet of a king consists of other snakes, which it kills with one bite and swallows whole.
These snakes are referred by some people as the most intelligent of all snakes primarily because of the fact that they can lift 1/3rd of their body length above the ground (which is around 6 feet for fully grown kings) and can look straight in the eye of a human and mesmerize them.
King cobras are known to reside in places with high humidity because of which they are quite common in the forests of North East India and the Western Ghats. The good news is there is a healthy population in Karnataka but they are facing problems, primarily habitat destruction.
The most surprising fact about a king cobra is actually that it is not a cobra in the first place.
Cobras are snakes that belong to the Genus – Naja but the king cobra belongs to the Genus – Ophiophagus, which literally means a snake eater.
We people of Karnataka should be proud of the fact that we have the only captive breeding facility of king cobras in the Pilikula Nisargadhama which is situated close to Mangalore and also because Romulus Whitaker, the renowned herpetologist who is the founder of the Madras Snake Park and the Madras Crocodile Bank has called Agumbe the capitol of King Cobras and has suggested setting up the world’s first King Cobra sanctuary in Agumbe.
As a snake lover I would hope that these projects continue to preserve one of the most fascinating snakes to ever crawl the face of earth.

Here are some more interesting facts about this amazing snake, the King Cobra :
- They make nests and are the only known documented snake to show parental care. The male King Cobra takes turns guarding the nest and hunting with the female mate.
- They live upto 20 years of age in the wild.
- Synthetic Cobra venom is used in medicines like pain relievers and arthritis medication.
- A general snake fact : In the snake species, there is no visible difference between a male and female snake for an untrained eye.
